The program of shame and punishment is coming back with a vengeance. I can't say I blame them. This particular quote stuck out: "NIL stands for Now Its Legal."
This is sad "Gary Patterson willed rival TCU to six top-10 finishes from 2008 to 2017. TCU admissions applications went up 42% after the Frogs' 2010 undefeated season".

I enjoyed my time at PSU and football games were part of that. But choosing a college based on the performance of their football team is foolish.

Probably more common than we would expect.

Why is it sad? Applications to the University went up, in large part because of the publicity of being a good team and being on TV.

Fall of 94, day 1 of English 15 in Sackett building, room full of freshmen (almost all guys) in engineering. Pretty young lady who is the instructor for class asks each of us why we chose PSU. Gentleman in from of me says "because of the football team baby, they are going to win the national championship" (proudly announced he was from Jersey too). The instructor quickly gave him the business declaring, "if you are serious, thats one of the dumbest reasons I've ever heard". She couldnt stand football.

After everyone told their reason, she basically said she knew engineers were poor writers and most of us could not think with enough imagination to be good writers. lol. She also told us how she was in to other chicks so we should not try anything funny with her.

Her personal beliefs definitely played out as the only three people who got higher than a B- in that section were the 3 chicks. I got a C, the guy from Jersey got a D. For one of his papers he told us he had someone else write it and even ran it by university tutors to see what they thought. She gave him a D+ on that paper and all his others were D- or D, we all knew it was because of that first interaction.

If my kid wants to be a doctor I want him to go to the best med school. If he wants to be an engineer I want them to go to the best engineering school. I don't want him to go to a lesser school because they have a good football team.

I agree with her on the first paragraph except that I like football. Promoting herself as gay and discriminating against engineers was completely inappropriate.

You missed the point - the point is that applications to the school (aka admissions applications) rose by 42%, NOT that the student population increased with additionally accepted students. If the football or basketball or tiddlywinks team gets on TV, gets notoriety, it never fails to drive interest and applications to the Universities.

I hate to paraphrase Bobby Bowden, but he is correct - Sports are the front porch of your University. It's what everyone sees.

I didn't miss the point. I agree with Bowden that TV sports provide notoriety but I don't think that's a good reason to apply to a school.
