Overall, I'd say this has been one of the more memorable years for MSU athletics. Coming off a thrashing of UM in '09, expectations were high for us to finally get back to a bowl game. Not only did we get there in the midst of what could arguably have been the strongest SECW in ages, but we swept the SECE in the process and beat UM yet again along with their pathetic gameday experience. Oh yeah, beating the hell out of Michigan in a New Year's Day bowl was sweet too, as was ending the season with a #15 ranking.
We had basketball season.
As far as baseball goes, I think taking that last game from #1 Vandy in their house gave this team a sense of what they could accomplish. We managed to take at least one game from three legit top-five teams. Despite baseball being picked to finish last in the division this year, we manage to sweep a good USM squad, earn a trip to Hoover, sweep the Atlanta regional against a very good GT team and come one game short of Omaha.
So the year is in the books. It started and ended well. Was I disappointed we didn't win the game yesterday? Sure. Florida was just pissed that we beat them in football on their turf this year. Did we overachieve? Most definitely. But I'll take overachieving any day versus the opposite.
Reflect.
