To make my Thursday morning a little less hectic, and to put off even longer figuring out my KYPSW picks, I'm setting this up in advance.

Please use this thread for all pre-Session 1, in-Session 1, and post-Session 1 discussions.

When: March 17, 12 pm (noon) EDT

Where: Little Caesars Arena; Detroit, MI

TV: ESPNU, if that's part of your cable package.

Streaming: EPSN3.com (I believe you have to have ESPN as part of your cable package). If not, check out the ESPN app. Note: you can control the mat/match you watch with this.

Radio: The radio PBP with Jeff Byers will be streamed for free via LionVision. The pre-Session will start at 11:40 am EDT, with the competition at 12 pm EDT. You can access the radio PBP at:

Live Brackets: You can follow the brackets on TrackWrestling at:

Note: The Penn State Wrestling Club also has live brackets at: https://www.pennstatewrestlingclub.org

Team Scoring: The Penn State Wrestling Club is usually the fastest with that info. Their team scoring information can be found at: https://www.pennstatewrestlingclub.org/content/tournament_team_score.php?id=27&type=team

PBP: I blocked out all three days for the NCAA tournament (reffing shortage be damned), so I'm good for PBP for the tournament. (With the caveat that by tradition, I don't provide PBP for the Championships.) That said, I encourage everyone to participate in discussing each match, providing your insight, asking your questions, and expressing your frustration with a move, with a ref's decision, with the outcome, etc. @GregPickel will also be providing information. With 8 mats being used in the round, we all could use help with mat assignments for upcoming PSU bouts (usually available from the TrackWrestling link listed above, or the Penn State Wrestling twitter account). Collectively, we've made this work for everyone in the past, and I'm sure we'll do the same this year.

We Are ...

- ready to hear a roar from the Motor City
- hoping to have a great start by PSU wrestlers in Round 1, setting the stage for another team championship
- looking forward to a three great days of wrestling (and wishing I was in the arena in Detroit)

... Penn State!!!

ESPN trucks all around the arena last night. Hope we have a record breaking viewing audience starting at 12:00 today. Be great for wrestling. I’m sure Jeff Byers will be in his element today. Best time of the year fellas so have a great time and more importantly be safe. Let’s go State. Bring home the gold baby 🥇

As the world's most impatient person, I am anxiously pacing around waiting for the wrestling to begin and hoops to start. This is like the adult version of a kid on Christmas Eve.

Ah yes, the annual trying to figure out how to use ESPN3 to get all the mats up and running.

and hoops to start

what's that?

years ago, I used to have hoops on the TV, wrestling on the computer, and Byers either on the computer or on my SmartPhone. Over time, I've dropped the hoops. For this session, I'll have ESPNU on TV, the ESPN3 mat streams on the computer, and Byers on the computer. I'll hold off on the basketball until after the end of Session I.

how many of you took the day off?

how many of you are "working" from home, and will primarily be watching wrestling?

how many of you are at work, and trying to stream a mat or two (or more) on your computer?

between hoops and wrestling, I can't imagine this is a very productive day, on whole, for America.

“Working “ from home. Allegedly……My desk looks like a 911 call center.

125 R1: Drew Hildebrandt vs. Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) (I'll use AN)

Per 1
Drew with quite the hand slap with the coaches before heading to the center. How nice, neither guy likes collar ties. No shots thru 1 min. Stoppage with 1:58 left. AN wrestling from his knees for a bit. AN sort of shoots, Drew tries a counter and gets close, but can't get behind for the TD; nothing. Nothing thru 2 min. Drew sort of tries a shot, nothing. End.

Per 2
Drew defers, and AN takes neutral. AN with a half-hearted short. Now collar ties. Drew reaches, nothing. Drew shoots and AN guides him past and gets behind for the TD, 0-2. OOB with 46 sec left. Drew up quickly, returned, up again, and returned again, and out, 1-2. End. RT not much for AN

Per 3
Drew takes bottom. He's up quickly, peels the hands and is out, 2-2. RT not a factor (26 sec). An with a shot, nothing. Drew shoots, gets stuffed and nearly loses his balance. 1 min left. 30 sec left. AN shoots and had a leg for a sec, nothing. Drew shoots and has a leg, Ankle with a whizzer, and the buzzer sounds.

SV
AN shoots, then gets a head inside single, Drew kicks free but AN dives for the ankles and gets them on the edge. Damn

Hildebrandt loses 2-4 in SV

Well, that was less than ideal. Sheesh. Noto is tough. And now it's a long road back for Hildebrandt.

Drew picked up where he left off. Surprised the challenge brick didn't come in at the end of regulation to see if that was a takedown

a disappointing start for PSU. Noto was strong, and the more active wrestler.

We all saw Nick Lee wrestle back for 5th after losing his first round as a freshman. I believe senior Drew can do something similar.
I would like to think that's a possibility but just haven't been encouraged by what I've seen the last few matches. We shall see.
