The USA FS WTT Challenge Tournament is taking place this coming Saturday and Sunday (5/21 & 5/22). A number of current and former PSUers are in the tournament.

The below link is a good preview of each weight class at the tournament.

The preview is good, but it doesn't always indicate the seeds at each weight class. That can be found at this link:

Please use this thread for discussions in advance about the WTT Challenge Tourney, and then for discussions and results during the WTT Challenge Tourney.

Pat Downey has even entered the tourney, so if he shows up, and if he makes weight, I'm hoping @El_Jefe will keep us updated on how does in the tourney. ;)

Anyone know why no brooks? Also why kerk didn't even try to qualify? I know he was banged up at NCAA's

Brooks was pretty clear in interviews after he won NCAAs that he was going to take off (relatively speaking) this summer. If I recall correctly, he mentioned that he’s been competing year-round at Worlds, etc. for several years, and that he wanted to take a break this year and spend some time with his family. The interview(s) were posted on this board, so you could probably find them if you searched.

I don’t recall any such comments from Kerk. My assumption is that it’s related to rehabbing, but that’s just a guess.

I wish I could watch, but I’m no longer a Flo subscriber, and I’m not putting up $150 for the annual subscription. I think, but I’m not certain, that you can now do a monthly for $30/month. So is it worth $30 to watch the WTT (assuming it is true)? If I have the time to watch, it might be.

I justify the expense by comparing to the cost of a UFC card. Im not out there ordering UFC fights but the 3-6 tournaments I watch on Flo every year is easily worth $150 in my mind. The freestyle tournaments and random cards are essentially the only thing they offer of value these days though

I missed why we're not seeing Suriano in freestyle this year, can someone fill me in? Injury rehab?

in the 79 kg semis, Alex Dieringer is up on Cenzo Joseph, 1-0, at the break.

Dieringer got put on the clock early in the 2nd period, and didn't score, so that tied it up 1-1. Dieringer got a point with about 30 sec to go, and then Cenzo got a TD in the final 10 sec, and won 3-2.

He'll face Chance Marsteller in the final.

In the 86 kg semi, Mark Hall defeated Drew Foster, 2-0.

In the final, he'll face the winner of the Trent Hidlay - Zahid Valencia semi.

Edit: appears it will be Zahid, as he defeated Hidlay, 9-4

Nolf appears to be gradually transforming his body to the man-strength he is going to need for high level international freestyle.

Really some great bouts today. Lots of young talent with PSU connections plus we know we have guys resting up who would make some noise.

That anyone would put Panteleo above Zain, makes no sense. Zain’s dominated him ad infinitum. I thought Nick would beat Henderson, he’ll get better at freestyle and be at the top
Starocci beat ‘ringer: 3-1
