2023 BWI March Madness Competition

Once again, I invite you to join the BWI March Madness Pick'Em. As always, the competition is just for bragging rights. There is no entry fee to participate, and you don't win any money for winning the March Madness Pick'Em.

To join, CLICK HERE

On the screen you are taken to, click on the Join a Private Group button

On the window that appears, there are 2 blank fields.

- opposite Pool id, enter:

- opposite Password, enter:

pennstate

- click on the Join Pool button

At that point, you have to Sign in if you have a Yahoo account, or you have to create a Yahoo account if you don't have one. As I have an account that I use for the board Pick'Ems, I can't step you through the process for Signing in, or Creating an account. I presume you follow the prompts.

Once you are past the sign in/account creation process, you are taken to the BWI March Madness screen.

You have to name your brackets (which I strongly suggest that you use your board handle as part of the bracket name).

Each participant can enter 2 brackets in the BWI March Madness. So have a serious one, and a hopeful one, or a I'm-gonna-win one, and an upset one, etc.

The scoring system is No Bonus Points. Each game is worth 1 point.

If the pool reaches max size (which I don't know if there is one, or if there is what the number is), please let me know. In past years, I've created additional pools if we reached the limit.

My apologies, but I did not save the winners of the 2021 BWI March Madness. I usually acknowledge last year's winners in this post. The info is probably still in a post on the old board.

Also, the process of setting up a group competition, or renewing a prior one (which is what I did here) does not take you through each step of the process for registering. I believe the above info is correct, but can't guarantee that. If you find any mistakes, please post the corrected info in this thread.

I have just entered the field but I wanted to clarify something. On the million to one chance that I might actually win this thing, I will not accept the trophy but will award it to the 2nd place finisher. There is no way I will pay those damn shipping and handling charges.

To demonstrate my total lack of understanding of Tournament upsets and why they happen, I have entered two brackets this year, both far too heavy on the top seeds getting to the Final Four. Oh well. It's always fun no matter what.

Every year I change my technique, at least for one bracket. I've used the speed approach a couple of times over the years. I recall doing pretty well with it one year, and another time wondering wtf I was thinking when I made my picks.

I've told this story before, but it still gives me a chuckle, so I'll repeat it. Years ago, before there were lots of places online to host March Madness competitions, I used to organize one at work. It was a smaller company, so I often resorted to the personal appeal to get people to play. One female who was a little different, but pretty smart, agreed to play. She made me stay there as she filled out the paper entry, and tell her the name of the mascots of each team. She had a thing for animals, so if one team's mascot was an animal and another team's was not, she picked the former. If both team's mascots were animals, she'd pick the one she liked better, or if she was indifferent, she'd pick the one more likely to win in a competition in the wild. I don't remember all the details of what logic she used if neither mascot was an animal, but I do remember chuckling about the process. And in the end, she finished in the top 5 of the company contest.
