Here's my thinking. It's a weekend competition. Rate them based on how they perform at the event FOR THE EVENT. If they want to weigh it heavily for their sites overall ratings, do so or don't.
It's just goofy that ratings at the event are based on previous notions. Imagine going to the US Open and shooting the best weekend score and then being told you finish 11th because nobody really knew you prior to this weekend.
Whatever rating services want to conclude, Grunkemeyer is for real and PSU is in great shape with him. PSU evaluated him and likes him. They’re paid to run a blue blood program. They know what they’re doing.
I think there‘s a refusal by some rating services to acknowledge that they might not have been entirely correct or thorough in their overall analysis. Also, there’s a hype machine surrounding some recruits, but not others. It’s a fact. At Elite 11, they are viewing first hand what could be serious insufficiencies in the prior evaluations, but some evaluation systems do not allow for realistic corrections.
Slightly different issue…I remember when Joe was coach, PSU was playing a MAC school. I thought the MAC team QB was really good and wished PSU had him. During the game, one of the TV announcers said “PSU would be very dangerous if they had the MAC QB.”
