Looks like Ethan Grunkemeyer had a great Day 1. Positive mentions all day. Live arm, great accuracy and a catchable ball. I see a huge bump in his future!

It looks like he’s doing well there and he’s a competitor. PSU evaluated him and likes him. Maendler has lots of positive feedback: “human jugs machine.” PSU and Maendler are developing a good relationship. He won his Elite 11 regional. He’s very good QB and PSU is in good shape with him. Whatever the rating services say, he’s a top QB.

PSU has a pretty good history with Ohio QBs. We've won Rose Bowls, B1G Championships and National Championships with Ohio QBs. Hopefully Allar and Grunkenmeyer continue that tradition!

A Hemingway worthy paragraph.

Nice to see previous video of Grunkenmeyer throwing with Allar... Ethan can definetly spin it and looks almost effortless whipping the ball downfield. Sounds like his accuracy is really coming along as well. PSU has a nice pipeline of QBs right now, nice to see.

Allar's development is going to be critical for this. If the coaching staff can show they can elevate Allar and in turn the program to an even higher level, and get Allar to the level of a high NFL draft pick, it could open the floodgates for blue chip QB recruiting going forward.

We’re screwed. 😞

True, but at least we have already some better history at WR to build from. QB has been tough sledding for PSU historically, we tend to get more of a game manager type that is expected to not lose the game rather than a game changing QB that can take over and win games. Yes the last few have been drafted but none were what I'd consider "elite" QBs like you see at other top programs that are in the playoffs every year. McSorley might be the closest we've come recently as he made some big plays, but also had the benefit of a great surrounding cast.

Believe I saw also that 24/7 is only using this Elite 11 camp as 25% of their rankings of the QBs. So Ethan is starting out way down the ladder because of that and why you will see in 24/7 rankings they have Ethan so low. They are using most of the past year in their rankings.

Human jugs machine? Is this an evaluation of Grunkemeyer or Pam Anderson?

Wait, wasn’t he the MVP on Day 1?

Yes... see my earlier post. Some recruiting agencies are using this camp as only 25% of their weighting in the rankings. Obviously Ethan got a late start being evaluated for the past year compared to the 5* QBs at this camp. Hence why you see him in some rankings at the bottom of the group. On3 I believe is basing their rankings daily on only what they see and how they feel the QBs performed that day at the competition. You look at the overall competition and Ethan has been at the top or near the top in many contests. JF and Yurcich are darn good at seeing QBs and evaluating which ones are going to keep improving. Amazing how many QBs they have gotten early when they were 3* but quickly ascended after that. I think this is outstanding, when has PSU in its history had this many highly rated QBs in their QB room. 3 Elite 11 QBs will be in that room, pretty impressive. (Now they just have to continue to develop)

I’m sure it’s a nickname, but if not I want to meet the couple who called their kid Air.

Am I wrong in thinking that On3's Elite 11 Rankings are less biased than The Official Elite 11 Rankings?

My thinking is that The Elite 11 Camp needs to keep the highest rated QBs at the top in order to continually attract the highest rated passers each year. If a 3* kid comes in and outshines the 4* & 5* QBs, then it stands to reason that future 4* & 5* QBs may stay away for fear of being downgraded.

Lions247 too - kept the top ranked kids at the top…Grunkenmeyer is 7 in their final ranking.

There’s legit questions whether all evaluations are pure meritocracy based. You can’t escape thinking that other factors influence some of the “ratings.” Charles Power’s updates and evaluations make me question some of the other evaluations.

Here's my thinking. It's a weekend competition. Rate them based on how they perform at the event FOR THE EVENT. If they want to weigh it heavily for their sites overall ratings, do so or don't.

It's just goofy that ratings at the event are based on previous notions. Imagine going to the US Open and shooting the best weekend score and then being told you finish 11th because nobody really knew you prior to this weekend.

Whatever rating services want to conclude, Grunkemeyer is for real and PSU is in great shape with him. PSU evaluated him and likes him. They’re paid to run a blue blood program. They know what they’re doing.

I think there‘s a refusal by some rating services to acknowledge that they might not have been entirely correct or thorough in their overall analysis. Also, there’s a hype machine surrounding some recruits, but not others. It’s a fact. At Elite 11, they are viewing first hand what could be serious insufficiencies in the prior evaluations, but some evaluation systems do not allow for realistic corrections.

Slightly different issue…I remember when Joe was coach, PSU was playing a MAC school. I thought the MAC team QB was really good and wished PSU had him. During the game, one of the TV announcers said “PSU would be very dangerous if they had the MAC QB.”

Sounds like the Michigan commit won the “Camper with Spirit” award, which was the award we always gave to the kid when we had nothing else to give him/her.
He has “a throwing motion that led to some inconsistencies.”

Contra Grunkemeyer who won best mechanics, hit 17/20 passes, and was 2nd in ball velocity. Wow!
