Even if LSU misses out on all 3 they will be fine. They have the #1 recruiting class and a great class from the transfer portal. The transfer portal has truly changed how recruiting works. You can strike out on high school recruits like Jeff Walz at Louisville and Kellie Harper at Tennessee and still find yourself as a top 20 team with the portal. I do think if they do strike out though, they'll grow to regret not picking up Shaq's daughter.

4 LSU picks for 2 preseason teams is a lot. I definitely there will be a lot of players from across the league that will have something to say.

You are right, but there is a downside to the portal. Continuity and culture suffer. Continued portal usage generally means younger players get recruited over or their development is hindered.
Harper and UT will being going into next season ‘24-‘25 with only seven players on the roster. She will probably get 4-5 players through the portal.
Even if LSU signs no one else they will have a very good 7 player rotation and they will have 5 scholarships to give in the portal.
The SEC is becoming the portal league. Of the top 35 portal players 10 transferred into the SEC from another league, 3 SEC players transferred to another SEC team, 1 transferred out of the league. So the league was +9, The ACC was +1, the PAC was -3, B1G was -1, Big 12 +1

I don’t think flau’jae will be first team … I’m not even sure she will start.

I'm a little surprised that Raven didn't at least make 2nd team. She's the best PG in the league IMO. But since everything now is LSU,LSU,LSU, I guess I shouldn't be.

So what are the chances our recruiting class this year will end up being Mcdaniel, Kennedy Smith, Joyce Edwards and Adhel Tac? If so that is for sure a No 1 or 2 ranked class....again for Dawn. The only one here I am least sure of getting is Smith. Didnt she visit this past weekend and there were thoughts it went really, really well?

Kennedy Smith has as her final five; US, Southern Cal, UCLA, Duke and Louisville.

So Cal, UCLA, and L’ville all have commitments from a 5***** at her position. “Generally” recruits don’t go somewhere that already has their position covered. We are a better program than Duke and I also think a better style of play fit. My only concern is can she pull the trigger to go 3,000 miles.

I have no inside info but she just posted what appears to be the pics from her official visit to UCLA, which is definitely odd considering the timing. It does now make me think that South Carolina was her last official visit when it was previously reported that she had us and UCLA still remaining before this weekend. Of course, she could have visited UCLA way before last weekend since she is a local. Either way, I really hope to see the South Carolina visit pics soon haha
It seems she waits a long time before she posts her visit pics. She has also visited Duke and still hasn’t posted those pics. Looks like we got her last visit so that has to help I would think! She also posted a comment on a recent post by Raven.

I think we will be getting a birdie tweet before the end of the month for either her or Adhel and possibly both!!!

It was a great game plan against the Liberty. They took away the top 3 scoring threats and dared the others to beat them. That is what caused Stewart to play poorly. She tried to force the issue and changed the way she played in defiance . Once they got into her head that was all she wrote .

It’s Thursday let’s talk Rutgers…..

What a great opportunity to play a P5 team for your exhibition game. While Rutgers was not a good team last season, they were 12-20. Nonetheless they are miles better than what we normally get in an exhibition game.

They return all 5starters and 2 other players who played significant minutes. Kaylene Smilke a 6’0 guard avg 18ppg. Cornwell C averaged 10&9, Sidibe G averaged right at 10 ppg.

Part of their difficulties last season was that they only had an 8 player roster and in a number of games they lost steam in the second half. The roster issues have been addressed with 3 freshman, none in the top 💯 but worthy of a P5 scholarship. Also they added 2 portal players Mya Petticord a backup G at A&M, and Destiny Adams backup Post at UNC. Not superstars but should make good contributions, especially Adams.

They have good overall size but tallest player is 6’4”. Not a very good shooting team but Smilke is a scorer and shot a good 36% from 3. Had a lot of DQs from fouls but that was probably an issue of depth. Not a a strong rebounding team and average on D

Should be a 25-30 point win and maybe competitive for a quarter or a little more. We will none the less get a much better read on our team’s development than from previous exhibition games

If it’s really just practice, give them a few players. Ha

Just got through watching SC on media day and I’m super excited to hear that Kamilla has become vocal. Also Bree says Sania has been very energizing to other players. I really think we are going to surprise some people with how good we are going to be this year!

Also another note on Kennedy Smith … I rarely see all the current players reposting a recruit’s visit pics but most of our girls have. I think they are pushing hard for her!!!

Recently saw Lexie Brown on a podcast mention that she regrets not playing for Dawn Staley.
That was the year Dawn got Kaela and Lish out of the portal and there was a decent amount of spec and hope Lexie would come on board out of Maryland. Could’ve won a NC and would have been valuable in ‘17-‘18 given Davis/Gray going pro and the injuries at guard that hampered that season.

We normally keep a few spots open each year. We typically have 12-13 players on a roster each year. 15 player rosters on competitive teams often leads to many upset players due to the lack of minutes to go around.

Those open spots also allow for more opportunity when it comes to adding players from high school and the transfer portal. 11 is kind of thin for us but no one expected Cooper to leave after the close of the transfer portal either.
