I didn't expect that, even with Miles out for ND. Fun game to watch. Some quick thoughts:

* I wouldn't trade Cardoso for any player in the country. I know Iowa has a pretty good player, but Kamilla is the kind of player this program was built on. She looks ready to carry the torch.

* Love, love, LOVE Paopao's game. She's so solid out there. Only one turnover and she handled the ball a lot. Don't respect her and she will hit the perimeter shot or even take it to the basket.

* Fulwiley didn't disappoint. She didn't even shoot well from range and still was electric. 5 assists and 5 steals.

* The only negative was Chloe at the 4. Only 1 rebound. She was one of the reasons we struggled early. I thought Watkins looked better at that spot. Feagin as well. Not sure what Sania has to do to get meaningful minutes. To her credit, she's still the most enthusiastic player on the bench.

Wow. Not really a big WBB guy, but seeing them about to drop a dime on a top 10 team is mean. So much for that "rebuilding" year huh?? lol

Fulwiley is her...pretty strong endorsement here:

I think Kevin Durant tweeted about it also (or retweetered or somthing 🤪 )

Got to admit I did not see this score happening. Was expecting a 10-15 point victory with much of the margin coming late.

We could have made it worse but Dawn as usual cleared the bench with almost 6 minutes left. ND outscored us by 4 over this stretch but they left their starting 5 in til the buzzer. Trying to save a little face.

Before we get too giddy let’s break down some stats

The Good.
Scored 100 on 54.4% shooting. Very limited turnovers til the last 6 minutes. Assisted on 29-43 baskets which is excellent. Defense while giving up 71 points held ND to 33% on fgs.
Forced 18 turnovers with 9 steals and held them to 12 assists. We turned them into a 1v1 offense that took a lot of bad shots. 11 blocks. Excellent vs a very good offense.

The not so good.
We barely won the boards 47-44. They got 21 offensive rebounds to our 16. Worrisome! We have dominated national resounding stats the last 4 years. With how we rebounded against Rutgers, this looks like a trend not a blip. The last 3 years we have rebounded almost 50% of our missed shots. Today we only rebounded 33%, good but a far cry from dominant. MUST IMPROVE.
We did not get to the free throw line and were below average when we did(9-13) Part of this is attributable to great passing that led to 29 assists on shots that basically uncontested. The question is when those shots are contested, can we get to the line and convert

Feagins needs to rebound and play defense on the wings better. She is a tremendous scorer but she is just not aware on defense . When that light comes on she will be fierce .!

Correction: 6 steals and 6 assists for Fulwiley. Only ONE turnover. She played more under control than Hidalgo. Of course, Fulwiley had the better team around her, but give her credit for recognizing that and not trying to do too much.

No rebuild necessary - newbies are Cocked and Loaded.
Collapsing defenses will pay a price from the perimeter and Fulwiley in transition is a deadly component.
Been waiting two years for Fulwiley. I wanted to see how her game translated before I said anything. Her speed is just deadly and she has the shot to go with it even if she was a little off with that today. The most excited I have been for a female recruit since A'ja.

No doubt. She didn't get back on D quick enough in the 1st half and Dawn pulled her. But, based on today, I don't see Chloe keeping Angel Reese or Rickea Jackson off the boards. We might have to live with whatever deficiencies Feagin might have, if we want to beat LSU and Tennessee.

The best defensive five we had play together today were the 3 point guards with Cardosa and Watkins on the backline. They were quick up top, pesky and pressing and Watkins and Cardosa were controlling the glass and protecting the rim.

I hope Kardosa uses her COVID year and comes back next year. With Joyce Edwards in the mix, we will be pre-season #1 no doubt.

I agree that it should be Feagins or Watkins at the 4. I see Chloe more as a 3 than a 4. I think her attitude and attention to detail has her in the starting lineup right now. Early in the year, Dawn can send messages like this especially when there is a gap in competition (I know ND was #10, but I wasn't worried). Hopefully, Feagins and Watkins can get the message soon as the games will only get tougher.

Kennedy Snith just reposted Milaysia’s crazy layup! Hopefully that’s a good sign!

I just don’t have a good feeling about Joyce 😩.

A scout that comments a lot about Joyce tweeted last week that LSU got a commit. It’s not likely that it isJaloni bc she hasn’t visited yet. Strong visited UCLA after his tweet. Only other two people it could be are O’Neal or Edwards. ONeal has not been a priority for LSU so must think she will go elsewhere. Ugh I’m ready for this to be over and I hope I am wrong about my gut!!!

In Watkins defense, she was the primary backup today at the 4 and 5. I think Dawn didn't want to risk early foul trouble for Ashlyn, which could potentially throw off the rotation. But, yeah, don't know about Feagin. Hopefully she'll do what coach expects to get more minutes.

methinks the recruiting 'experts" mistakenly put a 1 in front of Milaysia's final High school ranking.
The so-called recruiting experts were way off with regards to Fulwiley. First, they had her listed at 5'6" when she is all of 5'10" and no guard coming in is anywhere close to as fast with the ball as her. Just a terrible evaluation.

Just to note LSU is playing Reese at the 5 and Morrow at the 4. That was a fail this summer on the national team

I'm not especially concerned about the rebounding, yet, because Dawn could always move Chloe to the 3 and play Watkins & Feagin at the 4, if that becomes an issue. We blew out Rutgers and Notre Dame despite close rebounding totals. We're quick and athletic, making easy transition layups. Big difference from last year when we walked up the floor and missed a lot of shots in the half-court but fought for an additional 4 or 5 shots because of our offensive rebounding prowess.

btw, are you going to do a breakdown of Maryland? I have no idea who's on their team. Every year they have at least 5 new players.

I'm not concerned about rebounding until UT, A&M, LSU, Utah etc. We got so many easy buckets on O. But if we allow offensive rebounds it will bite us.

I will do a preview of Maryland, but I have to do my homework. And with Maryland early as you say lots of new faces.
I thought I did pretty well with ND

ESPN lists the Terps as starting 5 guards. I guess they didn't address the height deficiency from last year's game. They'll be well-coached, regardless.

HELLO

WHAT HAVE I BEEN TELLING YALL FOR THE LAST FIVE MONTHS

LSU Is talented but the pieces don’t fit

PaoPao is more valuable than Morrow, who is undersized to play the 4 in a power 5 conference and can’t play D 2-9 from the field 4 rebounds 4 fouls

HVL is not a PG and doesn’t play D. 5 assists 4 TOs

Angel Reese cannot play center, she has no mid range and bigger players will reduce her production

rant over.

LSU going down!!! Way to go Colorado Buffs!!!

I think you'll see us in the top 3 when the 1st polls come out. No way are we just #6.

On the UNC board, they are saying we look scary and look for us to be in the final 2 come NCAA time.

The 3 players LSU lost were underrated. Williams, especially, because she allowed Reese to play the 4.

I think Smith should start at the 5, pushing Reese and Morrow out to the 3 and 4. Probably bring Johnson off the bench (All-SEC, really?).

HvL looks, um, a tad slow. Did she bulk up over the summer?

They will be much better when they play us, though. I'm sure.

LSU will have to be outstanding in conference to be a #1 seed. The rest of their OOC schedule is lame as usual, save VA Tech. This was a pretty decisive lost.

Excellent thoughts

Smith should start at post. Only problem is though listed at 6’2” …. She ain’t. (Del Rosario is badly out of shape she can’t help)
It frees Reese up to play the 4 but pushes Morrow to the 3 where she will be even less effective on both ends

HVL is bulked and slower, I actually said that after watching their exhibition

This ranking system says we will win all our games. Will we have a boring year?

Another interesting stat from Massey. They have this '24 team ranked at 36 of all teams that have played women's bb since 1945. This is before we even played today. They certainly hold this team in high regard!!!

We were out rebounded due to our 54% shooting. If we efficient in shooting, the rebounds are not there.

Digested some of the LSU stats and guess I’m still in an “I told you so mood”

The board but not so much this thread went nutso when Morrow signed with LSU and didn’t even give us a visit. Several of us said, Undersized to play the 4, no mid range or outside shot to play the 3, doesn’t play D, and led the nation in shots attempted.

Her stat line last night
18 MP, 2-9 and 0-1 for 4 pts, 4 Rebs, 4 fouls (simply could not defend her position) 1 assist 2 turnovers

We also said who is going to play pg for LSU?

HVL??? Kateri Poole🤣🤣🤣

Poole 16 mp, 0 points 1 reb 2 assists 5 TOs
HVL 37mp 14 pts on 4-11 and 3-4, 7assists (3 in the last 3 minutes) 1 reb 4 TOs

well what about their D

PG Sherrod 31 mp, 19 pts 8 reb 6 assists
Formann the other G who also filled in at point some
27pts, 5 reb and 5 assists

if you reread I mentioned that but it doesn’t change only a 47-44 edge with them getting 21 O boards. We are a good rebounding team but have been top of the line Elite the last 4 years
We shot over 50% for last season and still led the nation in every rebounding stat. Your ownGood shooting is not an excuse to not clean up your defensive boards

The thing I'm enjoying about this is how bad they looked despite having the best womens college basketball team money can buy. Since April 3rd it's LSU, LSU and LSU. I've seen Angel Reese's pic in the media as much as I've seen Joe Bidens and Donald Trumps. Asinine. Please pardon the rant but I like King's dime store queen and the compliant media being brought back to earth. Just one day of the new basketball season and the pendulum has swung back to reality.
