Final projection: Penn State vs. Missouri

"After the Cotton Bowl received USC and Tulane in last season’s game, this season’s matchup will “most likely be two teams ranked in the top 10-12 of the final CFP Rankings.” It's unlikely the selection committee and ESPN puts the Group of Five champion back at this venue in an effort to spread the love a bit. There’s no specific conference tie-in any longer in this game and the Cotton Bowl has no influence in which teams will play in its game. That said, sources tell 247Sports that Texas had made it clear the Longhorns prefer "leaving the state" for bowl season if they're not selected for the playoff."

Prefer Bama or Oregon. Also prefer Atlanta to TX. But I'd take that deal right now (before these games start).

That would work. But haven’t we been there recently? Good opponent, evening game, not much viewing competition. Frees up time on other days.

It's all still TBD, and who can predict with any degree of confidence how it will play out until we see how today goes.
But I think this could be a really interesting game. Mizzou is very good, have a good resume (10-2, 2 "quality" losses, a few solid, notable wins in KState, Tenn., and Kty.). A win over them would be our best win of the season. Their QB and RB are very good. Depending on opt-outs, I think our guys would look forward to facing this challenge and should win.

Back about 10 or 15 years ago, whenever there would be talk about the B1G expanding beyond 11 schools, Mizzou and Texas were the two schools most often assumed to be the prime targets. Then Mizzou joined the SEC, and we went with Nebraska (I don't recall all the specific timing off the top, so I could be off). I was always hoping for Mizzou over anyone else mentioned. And certainly over Rutgres and/or Maryland. So, imo, long overdue, but I'd welcome a game with Mizzou.

This one won't be 10-3 like in the Orange Bowl after the 1969 season! Maybe more like the 1980 game out there where Blackledge showed he had some wheels! (29-21 (??) PSU win).

I think Mizzou would make for an exciting game.

Should we wind up playing Missouri,
I believe we need our full defense without OP-ed outs.

They have an All American RB and WR.

rematch of sorts

That Missouri team was coached by Dan Devine who would go on to coach the Domers to the 1977 MNC.

Here is a highlight of the 1980 game, freshman Todd Blackledge for the win 7:20 mark

Should be a great game. If both teams come into the game at full strength Penn State wins easily. However, if NFL bound players opt out for either team anything can happen.
