312 schools in this country compete at the D1 level in women's volleyball..

..They are all allowed to award 12 scholarships. So more than 3700 chicks in this country every year get free rides to bat a ball over a net while wearing obscenely short shorts. Can we not find a couple... a few, even.. that can win an Olympic gold medal?

anyway, volleyball is really fun to watch.

The problem is that D1 volleyball is not the same as the international game. The NCAA allows teams to substitute out the hitters so none of them know how to play defense or serve. They basically have to learn a new game after college in order to compete. It makes D-1 more exciting, but screw us up big time in the international game.
