I totally get that most teams are moving toward a 4-2-5 defense given the RPO and passing game today. This puts a premium on DE/edge rush players even if a bit smaller than "traditional" DE types. For some teams even the 3-T DT becomes a key cog in the pass rush. That seems to leave the DT, especially 1-T DT to be critical in the run stoppage. Looking at our roster, if you take PJ out of the equation, all the rest of the DT's look more like 3-T than 1-T body types. Some of the DTs even look like a larger DE type.

Against the current tOSU offense style, we seem okay, but vs some teams in the BIG, not sure how our match up feels. What are your thoughts re our current defense to stop the power teams - MSU, UMich, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minny and Illinois? realize they are not all on this year's schedule, but about half the BIG has had pretty strong power run. last year we played all but Minny. OSU even can run the ball when it wants to.

I think you and many people are playing it wrong. You need 2 2 gap DT playing a 2 technique. Not a 3-1. Look at old MD tapes from the 80 under Ross to get an idea
And then play 3 S and 2 C or 3c and 2 S or 4 C and 1 S
