I was unfortunately not at the game. But I got so excited at the above play I jumped up so high with my arms extended that I knocked down ceiling tiles at the house of a girl I was dating at the time! We sure had some great teams in the 1980s and mid 1990s. I was not following PSU as i grew up in NJ when PSU had great teams of the late 1960s and early 1970s. I came to PSU as a graduate student and became an instant fan in 1974 with a come from behind victory over Stanford and fan an avid fan ever since! beat UTAH!!!

I was there. I remember sitting in the upper corner of the end zone that Warner scored the initial TD.

I was there and if the photo was a bit clearer I could find myself in the crowd. Live, Garrity looked wide open and we were all on our feet yelling "there it is" well before the ball arrived. Watching the rerun it was much closer than we thought.

I broke my collarbone playing football earlier that day. When Garrity made that catch I clapped my hands in celebration, which hurt more than when it broke. Well worth the pain.

In the upper deck around the 30. The stadium personnel could not rush us out fast enough.

I was a sophomore and had zero means of getting to the game. Watched it at a buddies apartment in Erie Pa.

I was in Knoxville. My first marriage was crumbling at the time and I really needed the boost. I moved to Washington for good that summer and never looked back. 1983 was a good year.

Edit: my first wife was a very fine woman. She was smart enough and aware enough to know that we were finished, and made a fast and clean cut. (I’ve said many times here that I’m an extraordinarily oblivious person.) She did me such a favor, ufb.

Was there as well. Have SI poster. My best souvenir is the pennant signed by Blackledge, Warner, Ashley others but no Garrett. Signed at Hilton. Best memory was going back to Hilton in rain with my wife. Danced all the way. Gene Kelly & Debbie Reynolds had nothing on us that night!

We were in the very high seats around the 40-50 yardline. Many people experienced acrophobia that day.

I was there that day. I had 2 sets of tickets for the game. One for my wife and me and one set for a friend. There was no way I could find to see where the tickets were so I guessed. The set I gave away were on the 50, our set was in the end zone. The good news is that catch was right in front of us.

This happened right in front of the student section in the corner of the end zone. - I can still picture that pass coming straight towards us.
We were in the building, but at the other end from that play. Great game! The only other time I watched the Sugar Bowl was a loss to Alabama in 79

I had those seats a few years later when IU beat Syracuse in the Final Four. Watched the game on the Jumbotron. What a waste of $$$

Interesting watching the replay recently, there is a huge 3rd and 5 catch by Garrity with time winding down to ice the game. McCloskey clearly moves pre-snap, but no flag. First down PSU, and national championship.

play is at about the 38:00 mark here:

You were probably closer to the field. The football surface was on a much larger floor, I'm guessing for baseball, so I think being closer to the end zone you were closer to the playing field.

We weren’t in the Big Ten yet otherwise it definitely would’ve been called
