Why aren’t sports in 4K and HDR? It’s harder than you think
We've gotten used to a steady diet of 4K content, but 4K sports are a rare treat indeed. We look at why live sports in 4K and HDR is harder than you think.www.digitaltrends.com
How much of a difference could you tell?YTTV had the option to watch the NC game in 4k the other night. I chose the 4k feed. It was weird, during commercial breaks they did not cut the feed and show commercials. Announcer Audio was cut but instead of commercials it just showed the feed from one of the cameras placed in the corner of the showing the entire field, Jumbotron and ambient crowd noise
Sounds like back during the days of the giant satellites dishes except they didn’t cut the announcer audio during breaks. I can confirm Ron Franklin didn’t like cowbells….YTTV had the option to watch the NC game in 4k the other night. I chose the 4k feed. Haven’t watched any live sports in 4K, but my experience watching YouTube videos in 4K is that it’s noticeably better but not enough to really make any difference. How much of a difference could you tell?
In my opinion and experience and minimal knowledge - it depends on the size of your television. A 65" is most common now, I think, and you can't really tell much difference in a regular 1080p and 4K HDR. The 4K might be brighter, but the resolution mostly isn't noticeable unless you look closely. It'll be more noticeable on really large screen sets where the pixels are larger.NBC and FOX 4K feeds are noticeably better but the rest of the claims aren’t really different to me.
Not enough to buy a 4k tv for my house. How much of a difference could you tell?
If you're buying a TV anyway, buy a 4K. But if don't buy one just to get 4K.Not enough to buy a 4k tv for my house.
Not buying one anytime soon but your logic is sound. If you're buying a TV anyway, buy a 4K. But if don't buy one just to get 4K.
Yeah, a lot of the big sports events are streamed in 4K. Problem is, you have to stream it, which means you have to have that streaming service and you have to watch it live, no DVR. Too much of a hassle for me.I watched the Super Bowl in 4K last year on YouTube TV. It was noticeably better, even though I remember it was just upscaled.
When searching this topic, apparently Tubi is airing this year's SB in 4K.
