We pursued him heavily out of high school but that was under Martin. Think we might have been his first D1 offer and were favored to sign him at one point. Not sure if Lamont made any contact with him after he was hired.

We need a true big man.

Would be a huge get…literally
Yes. He will be big in size. Can't play. Duke has recruited over him at least 2-3 times and he couldn't even get end of the rotation minutes on a team that was not really better than ours. Pass.

Tons of guys out there who don’t get minutes for one reason or another on their current team, but go somewhere else and play well.

There was nothing special at all about Meechie at OSU, but he came here and was a key contributor.

He redshirted this season. Had injury. Still, he's from Charlotte. He's 7-1, 260. We should at least look at him.

Yep, looks kind of like just a bad luck situation for him there. Had 2 ankle surgeries and just never could get going. Whether a change of scenery would do the trick for him, who knows? That’s all some guys need. As you suggest, I think he’s at least worth a look.

So, we are just trying guys out now. If you look at the portal, there are plenty of quality Centers in the portal. Starting Guys. Guys that have made All-Conference. We got Meechie two years ago when the new coach was hired in March, most the players had left, and we had done little in early recruiting. Trying out a guy who was hurt this year and Averaged 1.5 Points a game the year before is the not the move if we are trying to win.

Not saying that the guy doesn't a deserve a look of some kind. He just should be well down the list and might throw him in the mix if we miss out on better prospects.

Looking at his recruiting profile he only had 12 offers, and the vast majority were not high-major offers. Given his limited use (and injury), he's probably more of a candidate for a CAA or SoCon team.

sure, I assume the coaches look at all kinds of guys in the portal. Many of whom they don’t end up having visit. No harm in looking.

Meechie was 4 ppg at OSU with nearly triple the minutes. If all you’re doing is looking at the stat line, we would’ve never had him come.

....and our team when he was recruited was absolute trash. We had nothing and would take anything. We don't have to do that now. We already have two project bigs (Gray and Bosmans-Verdonk) that will get playing time just for the simple fact that they are experienced in the system. Don't need another. We need an proven impact guy that can start right away.

Well, you just proved my point. Meechie was a big part of the reason we turned into a good team. Yet there was nothing about his stat line at Ohio State that would suggest he would make that kind of contribution here.

Your approach of only glancing at the stat line is overly simplistic for a person who claims to have a superb basketball acumen.

The dude from Pittsburgh Frederiko Frederiko would be a much bigger get. At least the dude has played meaningful minutes and we have an "in" as his brother is in the 2024 recruiting class. The Reeves kid is your guy for whatever reason, but I am looking at the Center Transfer portal guys right now. Reeves should be well down the list. Further, you are not basing your support on anything. The guy has no stats, no film. He is just big and Frank Martin (a fired coach) recruited him so he must be alright.

Your last sentence would be enough Hopefully to stop LP to not look at him.

We may not be the draw some would think. Lamont pursued Colorado C Eddie Lampkin, 6'11", but he chose Syracuse instead, even though they weren't all that good this season.

Duke has brought in some 5* C, which is why Reeves is leaving. We ain't bringing in many 5* here. At 7'1", if he can just stand there with his arms straight up in the air, that would be a massive leap forward versus what we saw in our embarrassing showing against Oregon.

He's probably not a take, but as we saw with Lampkin, we're not gonna beat out other schools for highly desirable transfers. Just think he's worth kicking the tires on given the proximity and previous history. Lamont took some pretty average players from the portal and turned them into something special this past season.
