Well MSU has about a 20% chance at pulling off the win against Memphis (should they sneak past UO)

Willie (Portland, OR): Who has the better chance at beating Memphis.......Oregon or Mississippi St.?

Pete Tiernan: (1:13 PM ET ) Well considering that nine seeds are 3-47 against one seeds in the second round, and eight seeds are 9-33, I would pick Mississippi State.

It shows just how damn difficult getting past this weekend is going to be. I say we would beat Mempis two or three times out of ten...seems to fall in line with your stat.

that guy isn't going to look at the teams or the matchups... just the historic 8 or 9 versus 1 statistics. Ridiculous.

So 1 seeds are undefeated against 16 seeds and 80-12 in the second round. So if you're a 1 seed, you essentially have an 87% chance of reaching the Sweet Sixteen. That's pretty good odds.

Bracket Breakdown: South and West

(Here's his preview of the East and Midwest regions.)

Note that that's not our chance of beating Memphis alone, but of reaching the Sweet 16.

A few interesting notes overall...
Only three #1 seeds have a better than 50% chance of even reaching the Elite 8.
Kansas has a 50% chance of reaching the championship game, and a better than 1 in 3 chance of winning it all.
The East region looks ridiculously tight.

1 in 600 trillion. I would hold off on printing up Natl Champs memorabilia until at least next weekend.
