but if Leach (RIP) were here we'd be pushing for a 10 win regular season.

A national treasure for sure!
With the way the SEC has been this year we'd be in contention for Atlanta. We caught Bama at the worst they've been in the last decade this year. Not saying we absolutely would have won, but I'd give us even odds.

I have a feeling that the “worst Bama team since XYZ” narrative is going to die pretty hard in about 8 weeks. People said the same thing about their 2017 team, who went on to win it all…..aGAIN.

The actual worst Bama team since 2007 was their 2010 team that went 9-3 and somehow lost to the interception assembly line known as Stephen Garcia in Columbia. And that team still beat the high holy living 17 out of us in Tuscaloosa just like they always do.

We would have more than a chance of winning. I know C34 hates him and his system, but we have no chance today.
It worked obviously.... long range it may not have been the best offense as only Mike could run it, but 2023 was set up to be a special year. Even Mike understand he needed to tweak it and add in more rushing.

BTW, C34 has some of the worst takes of any of our message board fans. Before the 2022 season, I posted LSU "out talented us," C34 respond with, "that's not even close to being true."

The Bama team now versus the one from two months ago are night and day. They beat Texas by two touchdowns if they played next weekend.

Last year was set up for an easy 9-10 wins and we won 8. Last year he should have had the year Kiffin is having this year. No way he wins 9-10 with these guys on defense.
Arnett would have been FT DC this year and that'd made a big difference. Our only for sure loss would be Bama, and with a possible loss to LSU, other than that, we'd been favored in every other game.

Meh. The Arnette not being full time DC thing is overrated. There are multiple reasons we suck and the roster is part of it.

Leach wouldn’t have won 10. That’s delusional. But he’d have won 7 or 8 for sure. And he wouldn’t have gotten his starting QB hurt running a draw play.
It wasn’t a draw play. Will ran when pocket broke down.

How so? At LSU, @ UA-T, @ Ole Miss, home against #1 UGA. Throw in Kentucky where we haven’t won since our 2014 squad. None of those are “easy”.

Yeah, there’s absolutely no such thing as an “easy 9 or 10 wins” at Mississippi State. Ever. That regular season win total has only happened twice in the lifetimes of probably 99% of posters here. Once in 1999 where we were, quite literally, 4 plays away from a losing record. Again in 2014 with the best team we have had in the past 82 years, and we still almost blew it against Arkansas and LSU - neither of which were good at all. In neither of those two instances was it easy.

It takes an easy as hell schedule (by SEC standards), a loaded roster, and, perhaps most importantly, a whole hell of a lot of luck for MSU to ever get beyond 8 regular season wins. We had none of those 3 things last year or this year.

We could have easily won at KY or LSU (they weren’t playing well when we played them and we were up 13-0.). Its as easy as we can have it But you have to score more than 23 total points offensively in those losses

Other than with a once in a generation QB (2014) and Leach’s first game (2020), when has it been ”easy“ to win in Tiger Stadium. Sherrill and Mullen took very good teams down there and came out with losses. Tiger Stadium is never “easy” for us. The 2022 Kentucky squad was coming off a 10 win season and had a future NFL QB. Again, neither were “easy“ considering how infrequent we have nine win regular seasons.

Never. But last year was a win. To act like differently is ridiculous. We were up 13-0. Fumbled a punt and the. Our offense shut down. Gotta win those for great seasons. Set up too easy.

LSU lost one game in Tiger Stadium last year…to #6 Tennessee in the final poll. LSU demolished UA-T and Ole Miss at home. Still not an “easy“ win. Should we have won? Perhaps. Easy, absolutely not.
