A realistic record of 4-8 is very likely

One would think Muschamp is still here.
It’s no different. Next year we will blame it on the schedule and injuries like always. We won’t be able to tackle. Players will be out of position. When no one on the team can tackle its coaching. When the whole OLine gets whipped it’s coaching.

I said on a post at the beginning of the season that because of our defense that this looked like 1995 all over again, but no one wanted to listen. Our defense is just as bad as it was in '95 but the offense is not quite as explosive.

Offense had the game in hand with 5 mins to go!
Couldn’t get a 1st down when it mattered against one of the worst UF defenses Ive seen. Our D is beyond atrocious and our ST, despite’s the block yesterday, just doesn’t have it like the past 2 seasons. Beamer’s old man coached in a different era against a far weaker schedule. His kid is less than him playing a far tougher schedule every year. I’m not seeing a good ending for him. But he’ll be wealthy.

And then they punted it back to an opposing offense that we hadn't really stopped all day.

It's true that we didn't lose this game because of the offence, but in the moment, when it was obvious our defense probably couldn't stop them, we went conservative with our play calling, failed to get a first down, and punted it back to them.

Add the transfers to the blame list.

Conservative? We threw a bomb on i believe 2nd down. We were lucky there was a penalty. Rattler threw it up for grabs when he had a player wide open for about 25 yards.

Yep, and after that, we went conservative. It's worth noting that bomb was the only successful play we had that series (got a pass interference call out of it). We needed at least two first downs on that series, we got one.

I agree with the conservative play calling, but it was the defense's turn to man up and make some plays to win the game. They failed miserably on a number of 4th and long opportunities. A good DC should have figured out. Our defensive positioning is terrible.

If that ball was intercepted, we would have complained we were too aggressive. I guess somewhere in between would have been nice.

They knew we were going to run. Should have thrown a slip screen or something really quick and safe to a WR that had a chance to make a play similar to Juice last year at the end against Clemp.

I just watched Beamer's post game presser. He was prickly and blaming everyone but himself. Reminded me of Muschamp, which is not good. All great coaches will jump the grenade and protect their team. I didn't see that.
Personally, I think Beamer is the right guy for the job but he is going to need to make some philosophical changes when it comes to coaching hires.

He believe he can take an average coach and make them a great coach by incorporateing them into his system. He needs to hire good, proven coaches. Outside of our special teams coach, there's not a lot of proven coaches (particularly the coordinators) on our roster. I can only think of 2-3 that would be desirable to other SEC teams. I would put our WR coach in this group.

Yeah, I breathed a big sigh of relief when we got the PI call. I feel like that throw probably wasn't what the coaching staff was looking for from Rattler on that play. But I feel like we overcorrected with the next set of downs. We should have continued to run our regular offense and actually tried to get the first down to win the game.

As I said before, the offense was not the reason we lost this game. I just took issue with the play-calling in that last series once it was obvious to everyone that our D probably wasn't going to stop them. You use the weapons you have, so when your QB is 23 of 29 for over 300 yards passing at that point, he has proven himself more capable than your defense.

I agree it's way too soon to declare Beamer a failure (or a success, for that matter). We knew when he was hired that it wasn't going to be a quick-turnaround, but a slow-build. And, yes, we knew there would be some learning on the job for him. Whether we agreed with the hire or not, I think those understandings were baked into the cake. He exceeded expectations the first two years, but barring a completely inexplicable turnaround, this third season will be a step back.

I think he has proven himself an adequate recruiter, a good motivator, and a good "messenger" for the program. I think the remaining component for him to master is that of being an administrator of coaches. Not all assistant hirings are going to work out, but it's on him to make those assessments and know when a change is necessary and when it's better to build consistency in the program.
