ACC considering football championship format changes?

Stupidity, IMHO.

I don't know what this gains them. To me, this gives CFP a reason to exclude the regular season champ.

ACC will weigh changes to its title game, commissioner says

I mean, take this year. SMU was reg season champ and they got in even though they lost the ACC Champ game. So, they would've been in regardless, and only the winner of Clemson v Miami would've gotten in. It's not like getting the ACC Champ game and losing would've been good enough to bump them into the Top 12.

Yeah. This is stupid. Why not just let the #4 and #5 teams play in the "championship game?" That way you'd be sure nobody loses their bid with a loss.

They need to either get rid of championship games (and find a way to make up the money lost) or else guarantee autobid to both the winner and loser of the games.

I like the idea of 16 teams, both the winner and loser of the P4 CCGs make it, plus 2 G5 champions and 6 at larges. The 4 P4 champions are guaranteed a top 8 seed (but not top 4). So this year it would have been:

16 Army @ 1 Oregon
9 Tennessee @ 8 Clemson

12 SMU @ 5 Notre Dame
13 Alabama @ 4 Penn State (or swap with Texas)

11 Boise State @ 6 Ohio State
14 Miami @ 3 Texas (or swap with Penn State)

10 Indiana @ 7 Arizona State
15 Iowa State @ 2 Georgia

Each CCG still matters but it can't knock you out of the bracket entirely
