a new position or two within the baseball program....

someone to oversee all the off the field stuff the coaches have to do now, and a recruiting coordinator, as well.

This is the type of **** that always happens when a coach leaves. Why does it take a coach leaving for us to improve our programs. Croom also got administrative help that Sherrill never got.

At least we're moving in the right direction. I would think this would only enhance our appeal to the top candidates.

his last 4 years ala Croom with Pendergrass. It was just an unpaid undergrad, whereas Pendergrass is making 80k a year.

We go cheap as long as we can, and then we have to make a change, and people come forth with all of these suggestions and because the team is in dire straights the AD makes changes to try to make people happy.

Anyone else think that Raffo gets one of these jobs? I sure do. That would be a good peace offering for people like KB21. Plus, Raffo probably doesn't want to leave Starkville, and I highly suspect that one of the only reasons he wants the HC job is because he thinks that might be his best chance of staying. Byrne probably had a conversation with him about this, and didn't tell Polk, because to be honest with you, you would think that someone that has their job on the line wouldn't say that a nationwide search would be a good thing.

I hope he does the off the field stuff, I really do think he would be good at that. That would be doing what Polk wishes anyway- because that would entail the Diamond Girls, the Baseball Camp, baseball alumni gatherings, and etc. Raffo may not have the personality to be a great coach, but he does have a good personality for dealing with people in the stands at games.

...you should suggest that to Greg if you haven't already. Make Raffo the Director of Baseball Operations, take a lot of the mundane off the shoulders of the Head Coach. Polk probably never wanted to give up any control at all.

but if they, in fact, create a recruiting coordinator position, he needs to stay far, far away from that one.

I wonder who they would get for that position, though. I looked at three SEC programs last night, (Ole Miss, LSU, and Bama) and none of them have a coach that is exclusively a recruiting coordinator. I think a lot of assistant coaches use the recruiting coordinator title to move up in the world so to speak. I wonder if they will hire a HS coach like Shane Kelly for that job.

I do hope that if we hire Cohen, he brings his pitching coach, Gene (I think) Henderson. He used to be at UF for years before UK.</p>

like Stephen Head? I love all of the "we could have gotten so and so stories"- I don't doubt that many are true.

The one that I can't figure out is Logan Power. The guy's brother plays at State, and his sister was a Diamond Girl, and I want to say a HC queen. I guess Raffo took the chance that he would walk-on, but it blew up in our face.

You're right....he mis-spoke. It will be one of the asst coaches that will be the recruiting coordinator. The other job will be there for someone, handling the travel plans, etc......
