We are working very hard to get portal pitchers. We are in on most of the few impact arms left. But our work is cut out for us. Arms are just harder to come by in the portal. In fact one of the top arms in the portal was Kelly Austin. He committed to Florida, wasnt drafted, but just signed an FA deal.
There are never a ton of quality pitchers in the portal…..therefore there is no going “all-in” on portal pitchers. This year, it’s Holman and a bunch of nobodies. Last year, it was Skenes, Gartman, and a bunch of nobodies.
For reference, last year our portal class was ranked #3 nationally. We had Ledbetter, Larry, Gartman, and a bunch of other arms who didn’t really help us a whole lot. And that’s the 3rd best class in the country.
Pitching in the SEC has to be primarily built by recruiting elite HS prospects, getting them to campus, and developing them to at least some level of serviceability. There is no other way to do it. We’re about to find out if Foxhall sucked at all 3 of those things, or just the 3rd thing. If he did suck at all 3, nothing we do in the portal is going to matter and nothing Parker can do is going to matter either. If he only sucked at the 3rd thing, then maybe we will be OK….regardless of the portal. But in neither case is the portal going to make or break us.

We still suck at this time. Not getting excited till we start showing signs of not sucking. Seeing us suck at baseball sucks and I'm tired of it.
Can't wait til next season.***
We don't have 3 pitchers with necks that long and short hair
Gotta keep the catchers fresh for the constant runs to the backstop
