Disagree. It has nothing to do with race or sexuality; it has everything to do with jealousy that a rookie comes in with more press and gets more headlines than any current WNBA player.

It's crazy how many more headlines I see about WNBA than I have in previous years; the vast majority have something to do with Clark.

While I agree with you, there has to be some percentage that the jealousy is about race and sexuality, considering the comments from other players about race. Aja Wilson being one of them.

Ultimately it’s jealousy which Clay points out. But a percentage of that jealousy has to, by some players, be tied to race and sexuality, which they believe lead to the popularity and shoe deals. Of course there are likely many in the league that are jealous, but don’t feel the popularity was due to race.

I don’t believe it’s an “all or nothing” situation. Some jealousy is motivated by race and sexuality. Some by just the popularity. And then there are some that are smart and realize her coming in is good for the league.

You got educated answers over on the WBB Thread (People that watched all the games). However, I guess we didn't give you what you wanted.
The people that have hijacked that thread are mostly the ones who don't get it. Clark is the best thing to ever happen to women's basketball period. Without her, very few eyeballs on the WNBA, or chartered flights. Surely you don't think Hood Rat Reese can draw numbers like Clark. Clark will make more money in one year than Reese will make in a lifetime or better yet 2 or 3 lifetimes.

Racial connotations? Could be; could be not. Most likely, racial considerations are on the minds of some of her more aggressive opponents but not others. No way to measure it. The discussion is circular and will not lead to a definitive conclusion.

Caitlin Clark could be the female version of Larry Bird. She, also, could be the female version of Christian Laettner. A great college player who was a nice player on the professional level, but never a star. People on both sides of this debate need to relax and allow for whatever the future holds for this young player. I watched this play out on a smaller, more local scale in Charlotte with Adam Morrison. I remember lines stretching down the block from Founders Hall just for fans to meet him 20 years ago. Fans packed what is now the Spectrum Center to see the new star. Fans that noticed that the kid was not playing well were just haters. As time went by, Morrison continued to not play well and then he got injured. By year 3, all those enthusiastic fans had left. They were never there for the basketball team or basketball for that matter. They were there for Adam Morrison. So, I have seen this movie before, and I am not sure Clark's fans understand the immense pressure they are putting her under. She's 11 games into her Rookie Year. Any feelings about what type of player she will be or what she deserves is premature.

To be fair, she is getting beat up pretty good, but it's up to the coach to use the attention she is drawing to the team's advantage. Once that comes about, if it is going to, things will settle into something more successful all the way around.

Her offensive potentialities didn't disappear when she became a pro. The truth is, maybe the Fever needs help in other areas. Three of their five losses have been drubbings, the worst being their most recent game with New York.

On an individual level, my focus is, and continues to be, on Aliyah. She doesn't deserve to be dragged down as she has. Her current PPG is more than three points below her cumulative WNBA average and more than four points below last year's average. Not favorable for her or the team.

I don't like how Aliyah is being used by her team or treated by the fans. They want Aliyah to be this pick-and-roll or pick and pop big to serve Clark's game when Aliyah is an old-school low post big. Aliyah is doing her best, but she just is not being used right. Further, the fans are all on her to fight for Caitlin
when that has never been Aliyah's character. This is turning into a train wreck for her and I saw it coming after a couple games.

I doubt Clark is the best women's player of all time, but she is certainly the most hyped and it's not even close. I can imagine all the Clark hype irks some players who feel they are good players as well. For whatever reason, the powers that be decided Clark was marketable.

Totally agree. Poor use of personnel and not very innovative coaching.

Yeah, what could be the reason?

I guess you haven't seen Arike Ogunbowale, WNBA leading scorer, play. Takes and makes Logo 3s routinely. Also, actually won something. Hit a buzzer beater to put Notre Dame in the Championship game that they ended up winning.

She's currently the 4th best 3pt shooter in the league, going by this year and career stats.

You have to forgive them, they're used to being totally anonymous.

Pretty funny that a single guy non-aggressively asking one question has them all in a lather.

They show up to games like:

And then get mad when people pay attention to them.

So the WNBA wants attention without scrutiny.

Nah 18. He wants answers, go to the team press conference. You don't accost professional athletes in the street. If he did that with an NBA team or player, team or player security would be on him in seconds. Ask Britney Spears about rolling up on NBA players unannounced.

lol, so asking a question from a distance is now accosting? lol!

There are all sorts of examples of professional athletes being asked questions by media or others in settings outside of a formal presser.

Let’s see A’ja got smacked in the head so many times last night that she lost her contact and had two separate bloody noses. Didn’t whine got 36 pts 12 rebounds and 6 steals. She is the best female player in the WORLD. Gets the hell beat out her every night and her comment was, “So glad that my teammates lifted me up so WE could win.”IMG_2098.jpeg

Most of these new Clark fans are new to the WNBA. The league is a more physical league than the NBA. One of the reasons for that is because it is not a vertical league like the NBA. Players are not going to try to go over each other. So, you get a lot of collisions at the rim. Also, this discourse about Clark being screened hard is laughable. Can somebody tell the Fever teammates to call out the screens or Clark has to get better at navigating screens. She tends to stumble and fall over into screens. Teams are not going to stop setting screens. The discourse over that is just ridiculous.

Tell his cheap (bleep) to get a press pass and go to the pre and/or post game press conference. Another alternative is to get in touch with a Public Relations staff member and try to schedule an interview. You don't roll up on players in the street.

Been happening to male professional athletes forever.

"We want to be treated equally, except when we want to be treated differently."
Okay. I challenge you two tough guys to roll up on Lebron James. You may get something out of it. Legal judgment or something because I promise you that the top NBA stars travel with 2-3 paid security and you are going to take a beatdown if you approach them the wrong way. Unfortunately, even a woman like Britney Spears had to find out the hard way last year at the Summer League in Las Vegas. Approached Victor Wembanyama and got rushed by his security.

All you had say is that you didn't watch the video, tough guy.

"Ms. Carter, have you had a chance to reach out to Kaitlin?" From about 10 to 15 feet away. Simple question, no insults, no name calling. No threats, not in her face. Security steps in-between them and everyone just keeps walking. There was no "wrong way" in this incident, unless you're the type hunting for ways to play victim.

But then again, that's exactly what this situation is.

I watched the video and it is out of order IMO, especially with a female. Did he know Carter, probably not. Why is he talking to her. Glad Hotel Security shut that mess down. If he is a press guy, like I said, go to the press conference. Everyone think the Charter flights in the WNBA are about Caitlin Clark. No, the WNBA started this process last year because stupid people like this guy were bothering Britney Griner in airports.

Trying to call that harassment or "out of order" is pathetic. We could end this little back and forth easily if you'd really watch the video. It was amazingly benign.

But this, "Why is he talking to her?" It's more than a little disturbing that you don't think people should be allowed to talk to anyone unless it's in a press conference.

Ive seen her but to give a benefit of a doubt I watched her "highlight mix tape" from both the 2022 and 2023 seasons and seen no logo 3's....had a couple of 27-28 footers but that was about it....our definition of routinely differs my friend

It’s like you just learned the phrase “roll up on” and were challenged to use it as many times as possible today.

I don’t know if there is a distance criterion for rolling up on somebody, but I’m pretty sure it means getting closer than 6 feet away.
