I saw on the OSU web site that AJ was flown by helicopter to OU Med.

Thankfully, the person who was hit by AJ appears to be OK as well. Unconfirmed reports, of course.

Just lucky Valenda wasn't driving a Ford Pinto, seriously though, it is a good thing both vehicles were similar.

Just a miracle no one was seriously hurt, hopefully AJ will recover.

This reminds of another OSU wrestler who almost threw his life away and basically ruined his college wrestling career by driving recklessly as well. In 1998 Brian Burrows (who wrestled for OKST) was driving his fathers Porshe with Robbie Waller (future NCAA champ) and was speeding like 100mph and killed a four year old boy when he t-boned another vehicle. Burrows spent 10 months in prison and returned to wrestling but he wasn't the same.

John Smith is no stranger to this very specific thing. I'm glad AJ is alright and I hope he is able to return to the mat for this March but man he has to make better decisions. I know he's young and I am sure he will learn form this but this could have ended very tragically as it often does in these situations.

While I certainly hope AJ is okay, I also hope the elephant in the room isn't overlooked.

UNCOMFIRMED reports have AJ illegally passing three vehicles on an two-lane road going uphill. I think of Valenda McKee, who was innocently driving the other direction. She could be any of our mother, sister, daughter, friend. Thank God for all that UNCOMFIRMED reports indicate she has minor injuries, despite a head-on crash. Same for Isia Rodriguez, who I sincerely hope wasn't encouraging AJ to pass. Although I will not pass judgment until the facts are known, the fact that he's a tremendous wrestler does not in any way absolve him from doing something incredibly stupid.

I must admit that I wasn't a big fan of AJ, but I see a lot of pictures of him with kids and many others, and he really does bring some much-needed unique energy, excitement, and positivity to the sport. But Valenda McKee is the innocent victim here, not AJ.

Yup, this is what I was referring to in my post. In both instances bad decisions were made by the drivers and AJ is lucky that nobody was killed if it's true that he was illegally passing, which is what was reported. I don't have an opinion on AJ one way or the other because I don't know him but I do think everyone here was very lucky with the outcome. My hope is that a very important lesson was learned here and that moving forward better decisions are made.

Wowser, hopefully that's just a loaner car from the local car dealer. Oh wait, sorry, that's the other OSU, my bad.

A lesson: when you speed, the angel on you shoulder may not be able to keep up! AJ and others had pretty fast angels!🙏

I'm just glad the guy in the other car is ok. I've read it was a double yellow and passing three cars? Pretty stupid.

Keeping perspective, hope he has a quick recovery. By the sounds of it, it will at least take a few weeks for him to get back if not longer depending on the extent of his injuries. Has about 5 weeks before B12’s where he could theoretically medically forfeit out (I think) and get an at large to give himself an extra two weeks.

And for the trifecta, it was going uphill.

It was a she - Valenda McKee.
Thanks for the correction.

Could have been a lot worse if they would have hit a semi neither he nor his passenger would have survived.

Looks like AJ will be at Nationals after winning his 2nd big 12 title in all likelihood. He’s a very lucky young man but looks great. I’m not a fan of his but glad to see he’s alright now.

Interesting news. Injury or discipline? Sucks either way but does this move Dean into 1st?

Smith said Ferrari will have surgery.

And, yes, Dean will move up to #1 if there is another ranking before B10s. And the B10 champ is practically guaranteed to be the 1 seed at nationals.

So what can you say to someone like AJ..? I dunno but the Haitians have a proverb that translates something like this. ‘Being stupid won’t kill you but it’ll make you sweat a lot’.
I remember that from a calendar I brought home from a missions trip to Haiti in 1981.

Maybe Dean unless Beard goes in the post season. Love both guys. Beard is the bigger 197. Beard is better on his feet while Dean is better on the mat. Tough decision.

The decision appears to have been made, unless Dean's injury against OSU was serious.

That's tough for A.J. but hopefully he will be back. And while it moves Dean to #1, he could be the 2 seed at Big 10s.

I beg to differ. That's not tough for A.J. He earned it. I don't wish him any ill will, and I hope he makes a full recovery, but I have zero sympathy for him missing out on the remainder of the season. I have sympathy for Valenda McKee, who miraculously (according to reports) was not hurt after getting hit head-on by an idiot trying to pass three cars going uphill on a two-lane road (per reports). People feel sorry for A.J., but would they feel sorry for him if he wasn't an amazing wrestler?
