Reading the Patriot moves to get to 53. It says that Trace McSorley was released but many other players were waived. What is the difference?

Released players are vets with 4 yrs or more and can sign as a free agent. Waived players (less than 4 yrs) can be picked up by another team after 4 days and it goes by draft order who gets to dip into the waiver pool.

nothing really although i think it has something to do with their contract vested vet status. As a vested vet you dont have to go thru the waiver process, you can sign with anyone, otherwise it goes the same as draft order relative to signing a released player. I think

No, the waiver deadline is noon tomorrow, Wednesday.

pretty sure you have to clear waivers before being able to be signed to the practice squad
Yes. It’s in the article. Only free agents (released players or players who clear waivers) can be signed to the practice squad. Players picked up on waivers have to be put on the 53.
