What can you tell me about the area? Good, bad, etc? I'm Reading born and raised. Although I spent 2 very fun years at Slippery Rock back in the 90s, I'm unfamiliar with this area.

Ummmm, why? Why Finleyville? Grocery store. Gas station. Empty store fronts. Church. Little league ball field. Access to 43. Drive to Library to get the T is 5 minutes.

Quite, end of the line.

He got a deal on a home out there. A deal he couldn't find back here.
Yes, Pittsburgh has the most affordable housing of any city in the country. I would imagine Finleyville is certainly one of the most affordable in the Region and sits at the outer edge ( thus Washington County and not Allegheny )

No idea what your son’s situation is with spouse, kids, job, interests, etc. Finleyville is a quiet little community. About an hour from downtown and lots of deer.

Wife, 1 girl and 1 son on the way. No college or trade. Manual labor only. Any factories or industry out that way?

He’ll be out in the middle of nowhere. That can be good or that can be bad, don’t know your son’s preferences.

Crazy thing about the town of Finleyville and a lot of those small towns out in Western PA, the actual town has very few people in it, but the name of the town extends well out beyond the little town itself. Finleyville probably means kids going to go to Ringgold high school, home of Joe Montana. But there’s also Parts of Finleyville ZIP Code that actually go to peters Township high school, which has as one of the top schools in the entire state and the median income of that school is probably $100,000 a year more than it is for Ringgold. Mingo Creek Park it’s probably nearby, a nice place to visit but maybe need a little bit more info of the exact area to give a complete description.

Lots of construction firms out in that area, golden triangle for one.Depending on what part of Finleyville they are in, they might not be too far from Charleroi or California University of Pennsylvania. I think it’s been consolidated with Clarion and is called something different now though. Canonsburg in North Strabane Township have been growing pretty rapidly that’s more north towards the city, the Southpoint complex has tons of businesses up there.Washington and peters Township aren’t too far away but in general the job market isn’t that great over there.

Fracking is ongoing and happening in Washington County. Just west of Finleyville across the street from Trax Farm Market in Library is an active Fracking site. The current state of fracking in SW Pa., West Virginia, and Ohio is very competitive.

Sure it still goes on, but it’s nowhere near what it was 10 years ago. Range resources iand other companies have not put in anywhere close to the amount of lines that were originally scheduled and stopped production on a lot of those wells.

Lots of new housing areas around the town. Great access to transportation to Pittsburgh. Close to major areas but just far enough away to not be with the crazies.

I have no idea what the job prospects are but Finleyville is nice if you like a slow pace of life and inexpensive housing and you don't care about fancy glitz stuff. And if you want to do city stuff now and then Pittsburgh is nearby. Have him try V & V Scratch Kitchen and Trax Farms.

Anyone remember Beth Dolinar from WTAE-TV back in the 1980s and 90s? She was from Finleyville, or so she said in one of her weekly columns in the Washington (PA) Observer-Reporter, which she still writes.

Finley is an ok place. As others have said close proximity to the city. I grew up near there and haven't been through there in a while but nothing in the way of industry was there in the past. As someone else said earlier there was a big move by a lot of people into the Peters Twp school district which abuts. Pretty rural in nature when you are outside of Finley proper.

Ringgold School District and the Finleyville area can leave a lot to be desired overall depending on preferences, but there are a lot of good people in that area and if he enjoys a bit more rural area that is much of Finleyville. As Bison and others have mentioned, if good schooling is a priority he should look to get into Peters eventually, still Washington County (lower taxes) . If he can get into the oil and gas field that is going to pay well overall, but there are a good amount of construction jobs as well. WG Tomko is a large employer located right in Finleyville that he might want to check out. Also mentioned before but V&V Scratch Kitchen is very good food, Trax farm has a good fall fest for kids and other seasonal events. Jump on 43 to get into the city pretty quickly. Depending on where at in 'Finleyville' he will be close to South Park or Mingo Creek Park, both have good playgrounds and areas for kids.

Ringgold school district is pretty rough. Maybe they will be in Peters Township district hopefully. That Mon Valley area is pretty depressed. I live in a township right outside of Washington luckily. My taxes would be double in the city.

V&V Scratch kitchen is an A+ establishment. Fine dining in a casual environment.

I'm headed out to Washington County today. Any recommendations for dining. I'm looking for a place that I can take my family and my son and his family. I have a special needs daughter and he has a pregnant wife and a 3 year old, so fine dining is out. Just a place with good food, service and probably American Style Food. Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of places along Race Track Road, depending on what you want. For casual Italian, I would go to Napoli's which is at the east end of Race Track Road on the other side of Route 19.

There's a decent BBQ place on Route 19 just north of Race Track Road called Pig and Fire Barbecue. Also a Deejays somewhere on RTR which is a local BBQ chain that started in Weirton, WV.

If you go south on Route 19 a few miles, there's a commercial development just north of I70 near Washington, PA, with virtually every national chain restaurant within a half mile if that's what you want.

Head north on Route 19 about 5 miles and you will be in Peters Township where there's a bunch of decent places. Grande Italian Restaurant just east of 19 at Waterdam Road.

Good pizza restaurants are Harry's and Fiori's, but I'm not sure pizza on a Friday night would be a smart move as those places get pretty crowded.

Someone above recommended V & V Scratch Kitchen near Finleyville. I've heard only good things, but never been there.

Hope this helps

It came down to Pig and Fire or Deejays. My wife wanted Deejays, so we're in Deejays as we speak. Thanks!
