Their longtime radio announcer of 35 years. It's unfortunate to see such a long relationship come to an acrimonious end. In my opinion, there's nothing quite like a great radio call. You've got to be so good at what you do to give the fan a visual image of what they are hearing. The SEC has had some good ones over the years. We had Bob Fulton for 40 years. UGA had Munson for 42 years. The Vols had John Ward for 35 years.

To make matters worse, Gold was canned via Zoom. Firing an employee of 35 years over Zoom?? Bama tried to paper over it wanted a press release that said he had resigned. He pushed back on that, so they were going to re-word it that he stepped down, but he shot that down as well. He went on the radio to make clear it was not a mutual parting of the ways and it that was not "amicable." Just too bad. He proposed to come back and do one last season before riding off into the sunset.

I don't even listen to Alabama games on the radio, but this just seems like a lame thing to do.

I don’t listen to Bama football, but I remember his voice from 80s NASCAR. One of those guys when you here the call, you know his voice immediately.
Same. He was a good announcer. Total BS what they did to him. Saban should say something about it.

While living in St. Louis I remember Eli Gold was hired as play by play announcer for local Blues hockey broadcasts in 1981 or so. He lasted one year as he wasn't very good at it. I don't listen to Alabama broadcasts but apparently he's much better at football.

Bama is tempting karma. Just like fate, karma can be a ***** too. It will be funny if karma bites them into a bad season

Not knocking Gold, but his health had become problematic so that his availability had become problematic.
