All the NIL stuff made me realize something

We as state fans (myself included) always assume the worst with every minor piece of news that is released. Case in point, Shapen is coming back. The only thing that can mean is that we are losing MVB and Arnold. Except it DOESNT mean that, but all of us jumped to that conclusion.

All that to ask the following: what would have to happen for you to stop assuming that when there is a good and bad outcome for state, it will always go bad?

It's just our nature. Remember last year - where we thought we were going to get Dillon Gabriel. And then we get Shapen who was coming off injury and then proceeds to get injured in game 4.

We thought we were going to get DJ Durkin as DC. We ended up with Hutzler and gave him a 3 year contract.

I was positive until after Leach died and I saw the results of Arnett's complete break with that system. 7-8 wins a year are fine with me. That seems realistic and pragmatic and I get to enjoy watching the team win more than they lose. The occasional 9 wins is great. The way NIL has unfolded and the last two years have made me especially pessimistic. Ole Miss has money and a coach they can count on to win 8-10 games a year. With a little luck they might be a 1 or 2 loss team this year. I don't know that we have to coaching staff and admin in place to get us back to where we can expect 7-8 wins a year. We might be wasting a lot of money on them and the players they sign before we cut our losses. I suspect he gets three years but three years of pitiful football won't help the program at all. I recall reading a few poasters being impressed with VB for throwing a decent long ball as a true freshman and said he's the future of the program. My A&M buddy said after we played them this year that he'd be in maroon in College Station next year if the Aggies wanted him. That's the reality we now face. I learned to be less invested in State football this year. That will continue if the program shows little progress.

When there’s a reason to be optimistic, I think that State fans can be optimistic. Jans, Vic, and the early years of both Mullen and Lemonis are examples of that.

When a coach comes in and immediately shows weaknesses in recruiting, in his ability to manage his staff, and on the field, however, fans are going to be skeptical. We’ve been hearing nonstop about how our NIL is in great shape and our 2-10 season was a talent problem. Well, Lebby…. prove it and the anger will start to slow down

Well, we won the Natty in baseball (our historically strong sport) and before the confetti stopped falling, we had ”fans” saying we’d never win another conference game as long as “Lemonhead” was our coach.

If that doesn’t tell you all you need to know about our “fans”, then I don’t know what to tell you.
