So the next questions were to be posed to MSU interim president Vance Watson. He's been out for much of the past week or so but called earlier this morning. I asked him if Larry would have a role within the university. "There won't be in the athletic department," he said. "I know the SEC is interested in having him continue in some capacity until they get the TV contracts finished."

 

Anything else in the university, maybe on the other side of campus? No, he said.

Word on Larry Templeton's future wasn't the only thing to come out of my conversation with interim MSU president Vance Watson this morning. Turns out, the transfer of day-to-day athletic director duties has taken place a little earlier than expected.

 

Greg Byrne is in charge of the day-to-day operation of the athletic department, effective June 11, Watson said. We know that Byrne moved into Templeton's old office on the second floor of the Bryan Athletic Administration Building last week.

 

Watson said the request for this move came from Templeton, who approached Watson when the two were in Destin in late May for the SEC spring meetings. "He came to me there and told me that since he had the role in Omaha with the baseball committee, he actually wanted to go ahead and transfer the day-to-day responsibilities," Watson said.


 

Templeton left for Omaha on June 9 and won't return until June 26-ish. 

 

It's only a matter of days and semantics. But it's worth noting.
