Yeah, 27-0 at the half. I thought Clifford would get the first possession in the 3rd, then Allar.

No idea what the thinking is.
I thought he would as well but As a former coach my guess is that they had a specific set of plays they wanted to work on coming out of the break.

I think maintaining a healthy OL became more important than getting Allar a few more reps. He only missed 11 plays if you insert him after halftime. Considering we only threw 7 passes after SC took a seat, it wasn't in the cards.

Many of us who saw JF go over to Allar before the half, as SC was not having a good passing day, thought he said "get ready to go in." Allar reacted and looked like he was on alert. Apparently, it was something more like:
{insert your best interpretation here} "Get me a mocha latte ready so I can have it as soon as we get in for the half."

We could have taken the victory formation in the entire second half as well as the D was playing. That's why "making sure we had a comfortable lead" didn't really unless something makes someone think all the backups would do would was throw pick 6's. Might help with first teamers.

It was confusing but it is over and I am done thinking about it now. The situation will arise likely against Rutgers. We will see.

It was; when Clifford passes 10k yards. You are in. He passed it then inserted allar.

Cause Franklin's an idiot. He has been mismanaging the use of QBs for years now.
I think Franklin learned the importance of getting the second QB meaningful time last season. Those of us who followed Penn State when Joepa was coach would never see the backup QB until the second half of the 4th quarter. Never ever. But this is better.

Allar taking snaps with Tank *Freaking* Smith as his main running back is an absolute joke.

Is Allar a 5-star QB and the future of the program, or a human victory cigar?

Apparently, Allar is a still on his learner’s permit and cannot be trusted with the car keys

I missed the fourth quarter. How did Allar look, because his stats don't look very good.

The line that started is basically 60% 2nd string.
It wasn't like MD controlled the LOS against the reserves, either. I thought they held up pretty well. Allar didn't play well, but I suspect the rain had more to do with it than the OL. Beyond that, Allar isn't the only back-up that needs game reps - all of them do. A year from now when Allar is the starter, he'll be thankful that he has a line with experience and experienced depth. Tank Johnson isn't the future, but I also don't want Singleton or Allen on the field when the game is well in hand. With Lee hurt, it's those two, Johnson, or another walk-on behind him on the depth chart.

The last two games PSU has been able to use a lot of reserves. That's good in the near term as it means the starters are more rested for the last two games and good in the long term for player development. To date, Allar has 49 passing attempts. One will find very few 2nd stringers who are near that without the starter missing significant time to injury. If things go well this weekend, that number will only go up.

I don't necessarily think that Allar needs a bunch of reps this year to be successful next year. He's already shown the ability to step in and not go small in the moment. While he's accumulated some nice stats, I don't think the current passing scheme is quite what we'll see next year when the offense is tailored to his skill set.

One thing I've noticed is that he usually has Wallace, Evans, Liam Clifford, Dinkins in during his snaps. Or at least it seems that way. Comfort and repetition from practice perhaps.

I've really enjoyed the substitution pattern all year. We were missing Porter and Jacobs yes and the defense didn't miss a beat. I haven't instantly thought "well, they are going to score here" when the 2nd string hits the field as in years past.

The OL depth has been strong as well. Shelton has played well enough that I'm shocked he's not seen any time at RT, but firmly believe that's a definite indication that Olu is gone for the draft. Nelson and Vega look strong at guard and could emerge as starters next year.
