I think it was more to do with his 5* status and loyalty during sanctions. If JF had greater pressure earlier, he might have made a change

I think CJF would have started McSorley over Hack from day one if Hack wasn't a Senior.

On day one Hack was a sophomore. He set the PSU single game passing yardage record in his first game under CJF in Ireland. I’m not sure starting true freshman McSorley would have been a good idea.
