Maybe I'm over wooly. Usually I am worried, but I'm not with this game.

I think we win by 17.

We won't win 42-0 or anything like that, but the game will not be in doubt after three quarters.

But, thinking about what MSU team shows up scares the hell out of me. My memory isn't short. Last season was "nice", but the stench of the box of **** seasons that led up to is still fresh on my mind.

Remember, it's the MSU way to <17> up a good thing...

Ole Miss-24 La Tech-0

Unless they have improved a WHOLE lot since last year, I just don't see why this game worries so many of you. I guess 2001 through 2006 really 17'ed a lot of you up permanently.

Didn't know he was referring to Ole Miss and LaTech LAST YEAR, since I don't keep up with Ole Miss.

Not completely worried, but I can't help but have some doubts. It was just that bad for a long time and one good season can't erase that for me anyway.

You know, the ones where our offense was shut out for the first 3 quarters of both games against what was suppose to be very weak defenses? Yes, we in the end did what we had to to win, but there is no way I can remember those games and not be worried about every team on our schedule.

but I'm not worried. I've been watching my tapes of last years games and our guys have done a really good job of tackling, keeping the receivers in front of them, and just generally playing good fundamental football. When we got beat it was by better teams. I'm as confident as I can possibly be having sat through 37 years of Mississippi State football (which means we can always lose).

the 04 version to the 08 version is so completely different it's not even funny...we'll maybe it is funny.

We win. Period. No sweat.

Think @ BYU circa 2000. We'll rush all over them.

I had no idea Ole Miss played LaTech last year since I couldn't give 2 craps about them.

Ole Miss beat La Tech by a score of 24-0 last year.

Rebel Law is presenting this score as an example of how bad La Tech was last year.

He is basically stating that if a team is so bad that Ole Miss could shut them out last year, then they had better be something like a million times better to beat a bowl team from last year.

Thus, it fits in with his claim that we really shouldn't be worried about the La Tech game this year.

Now of course I am personally always a little wary anytime MSU takes the field. We have a knack for the disastrous.

His point was that if they beat LA Tech that bad last year, then LA Tech is very unlikely to have improved enough to beat us this year. He's probably right.

I am not to worried about this game. Could we lose? sure we could, we are MSU. But one thing we did do last year was beat the teams we were supposed to beat on our schedule with some young players at key positions. I think with the extra experience we have this year we will/should beat the teams we are supposed to. Hopefully the days of these small confernce teams beating us on a yearly basis are over

Not being a smartass, though it will sound that way but the reason I'm not worried about LaTech is that I'm not playing or coaching in the game nor will I probably speak or communicate my lack of concern about the game to anyone that is involved in our football program and I don't bet on the games even for fun so I absolutely am not worried.

I am worried about the following:

1/ Finding a reasonable parking place when I get to the game even though I know where to park.
and
2/ Not getting sleepy on the drive home that night as sometimes that happens.

If our football team wants to align themselves with teams of the past and lose to an inferior team and one that does not have the level of talent or proven ability they have then this is their opportunity; if the MSU football team is trying to establish a new identity and continue winning then they will get prepared and execute and play hard and hit hard but there is nothing I can do to influence that except yell and ring my bell which I will do but my execution will be flawless which doesn't concern me in the least.

No, I am NOT worried about this game and will not personally have a worry about any of it until Auburn; now that is something to worry about.

Just cautious.

I've been a MSU fan for a long time. I've learned not to count my chickens before they hatch.

With that said, I believe we'll get it done.

The Ole Miss game was closer than the score reflected. We squandered opportunities to put points on the board, and they got a bogus last minute touchdown on a blatant forward lateral after a field goal block. Our defense played strong, but our offense kept them on the field too long. The defense will only be better this year, and our offense is more mature as well. Those that are not worried about this game might be in for a big surprise on Aug 30.

When you lose by more than 3 TDs to an 0-8 team, there's not much way to spin it.

So what you're saying is if it wasn't for that damned blocked field goal, you might have been within two touchdowns of the worst team in the SEC. Goddamn refs. State by 30 *****.

I am not claiming a moral victory, but you guys shouldn't get your hopes up. Sure we will lose if we repeat that kind of performance, but that is highly unlikely. State will not score 30 unless we call off the dogs and put in our second team.

But if we score 20, we'll win by double digits. The worst defense in the SEC shut you out last year. That's gotta hurt.

That game was a pure meltdown, no way to spin it! When we fumbled the first snap of the game and then blew coverage on the next play, I knew it was gonna be a looooong day. Our starting QB fumbled the first snap of the game on 4 occasions last year. It was horrible. But, that was last year thankfully, hope springs eternal.

I should think MSU knows about meltdowns!

Ooooooooooooooooooo.....burn. Are you going to go back to that pathetic BBB board and brag to all your fellow Techsters that you laid some smack down but no one could hang with you??? That seems to be the norm over there. Sort of like the bratty kid who hits someone then takes off running....

If you look at the stats from the two games, you'll see a few things that should concern you. Y'all had Ole Miss at home and you allowed as many legal TDs as we did. The last one was horse crap and I've heard Ole Miss fans admit as much. We held Ole Miss to 232 yards and kept BJG-Ellis under 60 yards. Y'all allowed 319 yards and let the multiple-named one top the century mark. Our offense, from a yardage standpoint, was also more effective against Ole Miss than State's was (301 yards v/s 273)...and that's after the SEC refs handed Ole Miss over 100 gift yards (not claiming all the calls were BS, but a GREAT portion of them were).

Regardless, the "worst team in the SEC" card won't get you very far because that team out-gained MSU and the Croomies needed a huge 4th QTR comeback to win the game...at home. Our offense will be much improved as our QB has been replaced.

This WILL be a good game. No blow-out for State on the 30th.
