J-SWAT=Mission Possible

Jarvis Varnado enjoyed a record setting season and helped lead Mississippi State to a near upset of the Memphis Tigers in the NCAA Tournament. Varnado is quickly becoming one of the all-time fan favorites at MSU. Recently, I had a chance to interview Varnado, the National Defensive Player of the Year. Jarvis is back in his hometown of Brownsville, TN, but will be in both summer school sessions starting in June.

SWAT: My father is a defensive minded coach, but he has been telling me that this summer I need to work on developing my offensive game. I've been getting in the gym a lot and working hard.

SP: Are you going to any camps or playing on any exhibition teams this summer?

SWAT: I got invited to Amare Stoudemire's power forward/ center camp. It's going to be held in Gilbert, Arizona, around June 20-23.

Commentary: This is huge for MSU to get a player invited to Nike's Elite Skill Camps. Nike for the first time is inviting players who may play at an Adidas school. Jarvis will play in front of every NBA general manager and director of scouting; and he will not only play with the top 25 power forwards and centers in the country, but will have the chance to work with Amare and some of Nike's top NBA players.
