By openly pushing Raffo Polk may have actually cemented Raffo`s fate. Look at it from Byrne`s view. Trust me, Greg is well aware of the perceived "good ole boy" way of doing things at MSU. If he hires Raffo, then a large number of MSU folks are gonna think , Well, nothing has changed. Same old MSU. So, if I am Greg I get someone as far removed from Polk as I can. Ron may be a legend in some minds, but , for the life of me, I can find NO reason for legendary status to be bestowed on Polk, Remember, this is the guy who had Clark, Palmiero, Brantley, and Thigpen ON THE SAME TEAM and could not swing a CWS; Now, I will grant Polk his longevity, his beating up on non conference teams and the such. But, a LEGEND? No way.
The guy at Baylor coaches just like Ron. Beats up on small fry, has some success in his conference..but cannot win the big time stuff. Same with Mark Johnson when he was at Texas A&M...made some regionals..faced a good pitcher or two and was sent home. Cohen seems to be following a similar pattern .Starts out 19-0, then wilts in conference show downs and tournaments.
I want someone hungry, fresh, and completely removed from any connections with the current regime.
Just food for thought guys.
