Another year, another epic Manchester City Champions League choke

Up 5-3 heading into the 90th minute of the second leg of the semifinal vs Real Madrid to go to a finals match vs Liverpool & give up 2 goals in stoppage time and a penalty in extra time to lose. With the talent & coach they’ve bought pretty amazing they haven’t won it yet. I don’t think they’ve even been to the final.

They were in the final last year. Chelsea beat them 1-0 on a Kai Havertz goal

Love it, but they were in the final last year, and THEN they choked. Real will be tough to beat for us in the final. They look to be the team getting all the luck this year.

Yeah. I remembered after I posted that (and actually before Dubs called me out for it). That really looked like their year. They were a much better team than Chelsea. Everyone's tough at this point. Sure would be sweet to get some revenge vs Real though. This Liverpool team seems to be peaking at the right time of year.

I would argue they were better than Chelsea throughout the year but Chelsea was playing as well as anyone after Tuchel took over. They were in such a big hole in the PL that they were fortunate to finish top 4 and were really fortunate to make the knockout stages of the Champions League. But, once Tuchel had them rolling they were really solid and the win over City was no fluke.

It doesn't bother me as a Liverpool supporter but I will say that it hurts MC when Kyle Walker is running in pain. Also Kevin DeBruyne has to throttle down a little to play as many minutes as possible after ankle or leg bruise. Raheem Stirling didn't even start so go figure. Hopefully they only get well after their Sunday game at Newcastle to give Liverpool a shot at winning the Premier League; You'll Never Walk Alone

Pep is a coach that has always relied on having the best talent money can buy, IN DEPTH, better and DEEPER than who he is playing. When confronted with equal talent on the pitch he is lost and contributes nothing. At City he has never had to face a more talented team and never will. He still can't win the European Cup. As for Chelski.......Putin killed them.

It's going to be really interesting to see how Chelski fairs now that they are going to have to function as a non-money losing business again. Personally I think they should have to pay back that billion pound "loan." Hopefully it will be good riddance to the fantastic plastics. Now if we could just do the same for City and prevent it from happening to a really great club, Newcastle.

You're probably correct but MC is not healthy for Newcastle. Newcastle has won 4 out of the last 5 games so there is a little hope.

Almost spit my coffee out when they gave them 6mins of extra time. Although, I wasn’t drinking coffee and they didn’t need it.

That was absolutely NOT a boring game. Awesome tactical game. Spurs plan was outstanding. Liverpool pretty much did what they could with Spurs sitting back on the counter. Spurs giveth and they taketh away. Their two wins against City are why Liverpool still had, and still do have, a slim chance. What's funny is that most Liverpool fans would rather win the league right now. City's would rather win the Champion's League.

I think you're right about the tactics. Looks like Tottenham did the Muhammad Ali "Rope The Dope" on Liverpool? Liverpool expended a lot of energy early, without a score, while Tottenham just laid on the ropes?
