How did LSU's Jr Day visit go?

"We went down there Saturday morning. When I got up there. It was a lot different than I thought. I figured it would be a nice huge campus but it was compact. But what really turned me off is that when you took one step off of campus, it was like Clarksdale, like you were in the ghetto. I went to a store right off of their campus and it was rough. That city reminds me a lot of Clarksdale, to be honest. But the Spring game had a lot of people there. We walked down on the field and they showed us the room with all of their famous past players. They got their national championship rings, which was pretty cool. They had some guy on their team that was kicked off of Miami's team come talk to us. His name was Ty Smith. He told us about how miserable he was during his first year at LSU because it was such a slower pace than it was at Miami.

The area between LSU and downtown Baton Rouge is a dump. Visualize the area around Jackson State.

On a different note, I still can't figure out why we haven't offered this guy. The sheep excuse is that he won't make his grades, but obviously Bama, Florida St., & Miami think differently.

The sheep excuse is that he won't make his grades,

I can't believe a white, academy player can't make his grades since the sad state of public schools is the reason their kids can't qualify.

because we apparently haven't offered yet. Sheep word is that Steen wants to come to Ole Miss, but he's waiting on an offer. Hence, our recruiting gurus are angry at Nutt and staff for not offering yet. Same is being said about Clayton Moore, who doesn't have an official offer from us yet either.

Apparently they believe that anyone with a D-1 offer that would like to come to Ole Miss should be given an offer by Ole Miss. I find it entertaining. If and when we do offer either of Moore or Steen. And if and when either commits, there will be a huge party on the Spirit. Nevermind the fact that they might both suck.

Neither MSU or UM (the closest two schools and instate, who you would think would have the true low-down on them) have offered. The big schools out of state seem to be coming after them. Maybe they want the Mississippi boys for the backup plans, I don't know. Both of them seem to be marketing themselves well (Moore has offers from Iowa, Va. Tech, Ok. State, etc.).

Are they non-qualifiers or something? Speaking of that, I'm still waiting to see if the likes of Alonzo Lawrence/Deandre Brown end up qualifying.

Not sure, but I think the reasoning may be that it's easier to offer guys out of state early. I don't know how it is for Croom, but I think the large majority of our offers to this point are out of state. My guess is that's being done because you want to be 100% sure on guys you offer in state. If an in state guy jumps at your offer and commits, you have to reserve a spot for that guy even if someone better comes along later. Reason being, if you pull an in state offer in favor of someone better late in the game, you run the risk of burning bridges with in state schools, which you don't want to do.

If you offer an out of state guy early, he's less likely to jump at the early offer, and also if he does jump at the offer and you have to pull it later in favor of a player you like more, you'll be burning bridges at schools that you're less likely to go back to in the future.

Also, I think it's wise to wait until after camps to offer both OL and QB (the positions of these 2). RB, WR, DL, LB, and DB are positions you can evaluate well from game tape alone. QB and OL are much more complex positions to evaluate, and therefore it's better to wait and offer only after seeing them in person and evaluating them in person.

baton rouge is like these days (after katrina). It was a dump before and now with all of those upstanding neworleaneans there it must be terrible. Funny how Corndog Garrett didn't mention anything about the ghetto though.

The part about Clarskdale is pretty funny. Baton Rouge has never been accused of being a great place to live. I haven't been since before Katrina so I can only imagine what it's like now.

Knoxville was pretty nice in many areas. You didn't want to go too far away from the fairgrounds if you were on that side of town (unless you gotta pay for it I guess).

that every HS football player in the state really wants to go to Ole Miss, but just haven't gotten that offer.

Man... Kid's put on some weight. Of course, he was in 8th grade when I graduated, so that's to be expected. He's always been big, though.
It's funny that at one point he quit football, and now he's getting BCS offers by the bucketload.

has one of the worst looking campuses in the SEC, but it doesn't matter since practically everyone in Lousiana wants to go there.
