When you are talking millions of dollars it is difficult to see the big picture or take the high road. Of course, that assumes he believes that he is primarily culpable for this year's disaster and not a victim of circumstance.
Didn't he already say that the players have to execute. Not his fault in his mind.
I'm not against him being paid what he's owed when he is dismissed, I'm just speculating if he'd consider stepping aside.

According to some quick searches, Arnett's buyout includes a 'duty to mitigate', which means if he takes a job during his buyout period, that salary is deducted from his buyout. His buyout is $4.5 Million payable over 3 years, so, $1.5 Million/year. If he were to get the DC job at USCw, he's likely making north of $1.5 Million/year.
I believe he's almost guaranteed to make more than $1.5 Million/year wherever he lands, so it's kind of a wash as to whether he's fired and takes the buyout or just resigns and takes a new job.

A better question would be did he have an opportunity to come back?
I think we all know the answer to that one.
This never happens because even in the unlikely event that the coach would accept the demotion, the new HC ain't about to let the former HC be sitting there on his staff potentially undermining him if he gets off to a rocky start. The new HC will want his own guy.
