Any Gas Left in the Tank?

We don’t match up well with Clemson, but I watched six of the players in the press conference after the game. They are playing with a chip on their shoulder. I think they want to show everybody how good they are as a team. I think they learned their lesson when they lost to Mizzu.

After big wins this year we’ve had letdown games so I gotta ask, do we have any gas left to beat the taters? I hope to see a similar level of play as we had last night, but must admit I worry a bit. A win next Saturday would make my year
Hard to string together 2 straight games like last night. Honestly, if we can have 80% of what we had last night we can beat the Tillmanites.

If that's the case, how do you explain the Gainesville debacle?

Kinda a tale of two teams, the home team and the road team. Too bad we don’t have the taters at home. I still have to think they’ll be ready next week but it’s a tuff environment.

Clemson D will not give us the cushions the UT D did.

Fortunately, the game is against Clemson, so there shouldn't be much of an emotional letdown.

True. But football and life are about showing up every time. A champion is not usually the greatest team if they lack focus and consistency. The champion is the team that is always very good no matter what.

Clemson has a much better D than UT. That alone will make the gas tank look drained. But they aren’t as explosive as UT on offense. I like our chances as long as we attack instead of whatever the heck we did offensively in our losses this year. But 63 points and a perfect offensive game will never happen against the Taters D. We need to be ready to trade blows and hang on for four quarters.

Good question. A lot of emotional energy was expended Sat. night. Tn. was missing a critical defender according to the Knoxville paper. As far as I know clemson will be at full strength on defense and they will be harder to move against. Hope our guys can get it up again. Sure wish the game was a home game. That crowd generates a lot of energy.

It's long odds to go into Death Valley and steal that one. I would hope we don't have a problem being emotionally prepared.

I'm hoping for a couple huge special team plays, that might bring victory 🤔

They were but we were missing our first and second best running backs. I’m hoping we get them back for Saturday. If we can run, even a little, bit we can win.

I've never felt like the home stadium mattered much in this rivalry. Both fan-bases bring 15,000 - 20,000 fans to the others' stadium via family connections and such, mitigating the home crowd somewhat. According to my review of the records, since 1990, we are 6-9 in games played at Clemson, but only 4-12 in games played in Columbia. For a 7 year stretch in the 1990s, the visiting team won every game.

If we abandon what worked last Saturday and insist on trying to establish a running game, we will lose... in my opinion.

But we did run last Saturday, not exclusively but we moved it on the ground. The taters are much better up front and if you expect to pass every down they get to Rattler. Gotta be able to move the ball some on the ground.

We used the whole field which opened up the run game. Dak helps. The reverses help. Having a legit passing attack that a team has to respect helps.

in the past we’ve just line up and run behind the center. Can’t survive like that. You are 100% correct. Still have to be able to run the ball. Rattler was great, but we had some really good runs too. Amazing how a passing games compliments a rushing game and rushing game compliments a passing game.
