but one of my students gave me a MSU t-shirt as a gift when she finished her fieldwork. I wore the shirt to Auburn and we won, and I wore it to every game that I went to last year. If it was cold, I have an Mississippi State sweatshirt that I would wear- which I wore to the Egg Bowl and Liberty Bowl with said t-shirt under my sweatshirt. The only game I didn't wear the t-shirt to was Tulane, and that was because I didn't have time to change into it after doing all of my NOLA activities. I say it was sueprstition, but it was really more I just liked how the t-shirt looked.
Also, last year every time my best friend would go to the games with me, MSU would win- we went to Tulane, Alabama, Ole Miss, and the Liberty Bowl last year. It was kind of a joke. I told him after we beat Bama that I was going to drag him to the Egg Bowl come hell or highwater, and after we won the Egg Bowl, I told him to make plans for Memphis.
Also, vhdawg could tell you that I would never wear MSU stuff to football games until last year. I was just too embarassed at the time to tell him that was more superstition than anything. I wore an Orem Owlz t-shirt (minor league baseball team in Provo, Utah) and a UF fan thought I was a Florida Atlantic fan. I think he had about five people check my t-shirt out.
When I was in the band, we were supposed to wear our "band t-shirt", but out of superstition, I never would. In 1999 I had a t-shirt that had the NIKE swoosh and MISSISSIPPI STATE: JUST DO IT. I also refused to do the Dawg Pound Rock in 99 except during pregame when I was forced to, but I told everyone I would do it if we beat Ole Miss. I was true to my word, but I think the entire stadium did it, so I probably would have done it anyway.
One more: My freshman year 1996- when you're in band, the freshmen get the last picks as far as uniforms. My uniform top was WAY too tight. Finally during the Bama game in 96 the back just ripped out- it was at least a foot long and about 6 inches wide. What pissed me off was the reason it ripped was because someone from the Bama band forgot their horn, and so I let the guy borrow mine for halftime. The deal was after their show, he was supposed to put it back where I started the MSU halftime show, which he did. When I went down to pick up my horn- RIIIIIIIPPPP!!!!. My parents saw it to only because my roomates Mom noticed- she was annoying as hell to- and pointed it out to everyone in the stands. My Dad told me it was kind of nice because he actually could figure out where I was on the field. Anyway, we won of course. Then it ripped again during the 96 Egg Bowl in Oxford, but the weather was so nasty that day, that we had to wear our raincoats, so no one noticed. It was a catch 22 for me because on one hand I didn't want people to know that my top had ripped aGAIN but on the other, I had a really bad cold and sitting in that weather was not making it any better. It took me two weeks to recover from that game- probably had the flu. But we were 2-0 when my uniform would rip that year.
