Yep, the 3 annual Fests are next week and supposedly expecting record vendors at Arts Fest. Get out and see People’s Choice at the Grange and also Heritage Days in Philipsburg. Hopefully visitors will be a record, too. The town has been hopping all June! Ironman 70.3 was awesome and it’s looking to be an annual event. Sleepy town no more in the summer. Weather looking good…

Son is going up -- he and his roommates didn't find anyone to sublet their apartment this summer, so they have a place to stay. I thought about going up as well but the wife and I were just up there for We Are Weekend, so will probably skip Arts Fest.

We got a good look at the new museum while we were up there. I'm sure this places me in the extreme minority on this board, but I think it's going to be a great facility and worthwhile addition to the campus. In combination with the nearby arboretum, that corner of campus will be a great place to visit.

Go ahead, let me have it.

Leaving tomorrow to drive up from SW FL. Been going since 1981, a year after I graduated, to meet with friends from the college years. Only missed a few here and there - my wedding, birth of 1st child and my daughter’s (first child) wedding. Second child toted along when she was 6 weeks old.

Things have changed over the years and not really for the better. You could just drive up and grab an inexpensive hotel room in the early years. Now hotel prices are pretty much through the roof and you have to reserve one way ahead of time. Crowds used to be small, now they can be extraordinarily large. Used to have bands on both Old Main lawn and HUB lawn. Now the main venues are Old Main (Festival Shell) lawn and the incredibly hot Allen Street stage. Got to see all of our kids grow up over the years and now they are all married except for one. Brothers Pizza on College Ave, one of our places for a quick bite to eat, looks like is coming back as Giuseppe’s after being gone for a few years, owned by the the son of the original owner.

However, the restaurant scene has changed dramatically over the years. Not a lot of hoagie, cheesesteak and similar food anymore. A lot of Asian cuisine now.

The restaurant scene has improved dramatically since I arrived in 1990. Although, we now find ourselves in need of a good diner. Shoot, I’d settle for a mediocre diner downtown.

Improved since the 90s yes, but has been going downhill the last 5-6 years. Mexican and Asian everywhere, not that there is anything wrong with that, but I really miss places like Herwigs. Lots of chain restaurants.

Is there a good sub place? Not sure when you graduated, I was mid 80's, and I always liked the Cattle Car and Penn State Sub Shop. Vesuvios was pretty good as well. The other Sandwich place I liked a lot was Stage Door Deli.

I love the sandwiches at Margaritas on Beaver Ave… great Pizza, too. But nothing like the old Train Station. McClanahan's on Allen is pretty good, too.

Sadly, I don’t know of a great hoagie place. McLanahan’s & Wegman’s are decent, and probably your best bet. Although I heard that the Brother’s in the Northland Center is good, but I have not tried it.

I think V&S was the last good hoagie in town and they closed several years ago. Boots and Bubba’s were also great.

First of all they are called HOAGIES!! :ROFLMAO: Come to think of it, I don't think there is any place downtown that makes a good hoagie anymore. I heard Margaritas does but they have off hours. There was a place called Bradley's that actually got the local bakery to make Philly style rolls that made their food better then most other places but they had odd hours as well and have since closed. There used to be a Jersey Mikes but that closed up downtown and moved out to South Atherton. Sheetz makes hoagies but they are closing downtown as well. I am going to have to go downtown on a mission. When I was in school there was a Lee's Hoagies that I frequented often.

LOL, I'm from Western PA. Hoagies were just smaller versions of Subs. 🤷‍♂️

I think parking is different this year. You used to be able to park in the lot south of Beaver Stadium and take a free shuttle bus downtown. They are now encouraging people to park in the garages downtown or the West Parking Deck across Atherton St near the IST building and take a shuttle bus.

Bradley's can be found out on N. Atherton across from Fine Wine and Good Spirits and HiWay Pizza. They do make good hoagies and cheese steaks...
