some cops will invent reasons to $**% with you if you don't show them the "respect" (read: ***-kissing) they think they deserve. Not saying that's what happened here but it happens all the time</p>

First of all, he didn't deny he was drinking he just said he wasn't drunk. Good chance he was legally drunk (it doesn't take that much to get to .08). Second, with that many witnesses, it's not too likely the cops roughed him up if he didn't put up any resistance at all. And it takes very little resistance for them to legally do what the article describes.

Texas law enforcement has a long and storied history of manufacturing evidence, falsifying police reports, generally making stuff up and all kinds of shady behavior. They've had something like 30 wrongly convicted inmates released from prison since 2001.</p>

I don't doubt it one freakin bit. I have SEEN cops do much worse in Texas.
