Anyone else hearing that Snead is soon to announce he is going pro?

Heard it from a <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">"good rebel="" (oxymoron?)</span> Rebel acquaintance.

Better question...if he were to go pro, where would he go in the draft? He's got the measurables, and so he may receive a boost at the combines, but what he showed this year is that if he doesn't have great pass protection, he goes into a shell. You can't do that in the NFL.

ETA: This rumor is starting from the same guy that said Nix was gone, Nutt was gone (the previous year), and Powe was in (about 2 years before he took his first snap). So take it for what it's worth.

Not right now, he's just to good for the pro's... There are too many things that he needs to teach his WR's, O-line, coaches, Sports Illustrated... you get the picture.

All we want for Christmas is for Jahvaughn Sneed to return for his senior year so that we can make 1st Team All SEC next season.

Yours truly,

Corey Broomfield
Charles Mitchell
and Johnthan Banks

Well, maybe not just Sowell, but I'll use him as the scapegoat since he had the propensity to be a whiny *****. At any rate, if Snead had adequate protection this year, he'd be looking at being drafted in the Top 5 QBs, even considering that Bradford and Clausen will be entering this year. Factor in the 2010 rookie salary scale and Snead likely left a ton of money on the table this year. He can thank the OL for that.

Yes, I think an OL can make or break a QB.

ETA: And to answer your question of "where would he go?". I guess that depends on how well he did in the combine. If we start with this list (only seniors) and add Bradford and Clausen, and toss in a wildcard (like a Mallet), he's not in the worst shape in the world. Certainly he would be drafted by Round 3 if he had a solid combine? Factor losing Hodge, McCluster, and a few o-lineman, and you could have a decent argument for Snead to press his luck. It's not going to get any easier next year.

It may make sense to an extent beause Ole Miss is losing 3-4 o-linemen and the one returning is Sowell, and he also loses Hodge and more importantly McCluster. He is also a pro-style QB, which is something that a guy like Tim Tebow can't say.

But at the same time, he was also extremely inconsistent, and you would have to think that he could improve upon that.

The ONLY way I could see Snead leaving is IF he were guaranteed to be a first round pick. And that's not the case.

a lot of his problems this year were were his fault. He just had a bad season, period.

Agree. The protection just exposed some problems that were already there. Even in 2008, he had accuracy issues. He just had more open receivers (due to Wallace stretching the defense), and he had more time to make decisions, so his misses weren't as costly. A lot of his high throws or low throws this year turned into picks because defenders had an easier time defending his receivers with not having to cover as long and knowing the deep safeties could cheat and ignore the deep ball.

And of course a lot of it was mental. He'd get hit a few times, and his mechanics would go to crap because you could tell he was thinking about the pass rush, which compounded his other problems.

And I agree that coming back he may not improve much after losing two of his biggest offensive weapons and losing 3 OL starters. That to me, along with the collective bargaining agreement, was the main reason I expected him to be gone after this year even with having just a decent year. His stock may have dropped enough though that he doesn't have the shot to go.

Snead loses a lot of his supporting cast and things are not going to get easier next year. If he lost a lot of stock this year, he doesn't need another year like it (or worse) to confirm it. Leave now, get drafted late 2nd or 3rd round and give it a go.
