Went for 27.
2008 stats ... 19.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.8 apg.

Last night was the first NBA game I watched for more than 5 minutes since the 80's. My goodness, I was dead wrong about Monta. I thought he made a big mistake by not going to college for at least a year or two with his smaller size. I often wonder what his stats would be like with State. Not that it would have ever materialized this way, but if he went to college and played on our team last year, (as a Jr) we would still be playing. Even without Gordon, who probably would not have come to MSU if Monta did.

More impressive than the stats you listed.. He is shooting 53% from the field. That's incredible; he is (or was at one point) the only guard shooting over 50%. He just might get most improved 2 years running.

still in the fold. Most likely both would have been here. We would have been a top 10 team with monta alone. He is/was that good. Stans even said something about how good gordon is, but that he couldnt/wouldnt have the impact that monta would have. Said it was an entirely different level with him.

I thought we would never hear Monta's name again once he declared for the draft. I watched him score 36 a few weeks ago using drives to the hoop, pull up 15 footers, and three pointers. Now I think he may not only have been our best ever but also among the best ever in the SEC.

Monta is badass.
He would have been our best player ever in Starkville, hands down...
Too bad the NBA did not change the rule a few years earlier.
That boy can shoot and leap right out of the gym too.

I, too, thought he was making a big mistake by going pro. He was very skinny and weak out of high school, which showed when he did his strength tests for the pros. However, he's obviously put on some muscle and is playing lights out. One of the things I like most about his game other than his shooting is his quickness. There are times where he absolutely blows by whoever is guarding him.

Does anybody know if he's renegotiated his contract much, because I think I remember his original contract being less than a million.

he's gonna get paid after this year.

It's funny; everybody always says, "If you don't go in the first round, you should stay in school because second round picks aren't guaranteed any money." Which is true, but the flip-side is that you aren't locked into an automatic contract and you can get your lucrative second contract sooner.

meaning he wasn't even guaranteed a contract, much less a high-dollar one. I think he's making about $750K this year but he'll be a restricted free agent after the season and undoubtedly he'll be one of the top free agents available. Word is he could command anywhere from $7-12 million/year.

Monta was 19 when he graduated HS if I remember correctly. As such, I don't believe the rule, as it is written, would have kept him from jumping straight to the NBA.

</p>well if we are going on record here, ill go on record as saying that being 19 isnt the only requirement. a player also has to be 1 year removed from when his high school class would have graduated.
so the rule, as it is written, actually would have kept him from going straight to the NBA.
