Now I am certainly not a fan of the X-games and think that these guys are crazy as all hell (this coming from an avid backcountry skier), but the skateboard big air competition was unbelievable last night. There is no bigger bad *** than Danny Way. He had an absolutely punishing fall that knocked him out and left him down for 5 minites or so. He came back (limping) and hit two sick runs, and had another nasty fall. Ended up winning the silver.

Here is a video of the crash: Nasty Crash

Hitting your shins that hard from 20 some odd feet in the air has to be fairly uncomfortable.

Just looking down from the top of the ramp coming in how high up he is and how steep it is, is mind blowing.</p>

and they showed that ramp my first thought was, "<17> that!" No way in hell I'd go down that thing. Guess it's a sign I'm getting old.

But I happened to see that last night. And it was pretty awesome.

I was pulling for that guy in the end.

I am pretty sure they wear shin protectors as well, but I am sure he is hurting today. His back is what took the biggest blow. He had another fall later where he landed the last jump and then his board went out from under him and he slammed his head into the ramp knocking his helmet sideways (ala Demon Glanton on Jimmy Johns). The guy has more balls than any other pro athlete.

one thing that non-skaters wont really appreciate is the fact those guys are dropping in on a ramp that probably has about 25 feet of transition. I'll put it this way...it takes a lot of guts to drop in on a quarterpipe that has 5 feet of transition.

I'll put it this way...remember those slides at the waterparks where you laid on your back and it seemed like it was a strait drop down? Imagine going down that on your feet (with a skateboard). That's how crazy that was last night....and that was the "easy" part.

edited to add this picture to make the above point about dropping in...

I figured someone would have brought up Jake Brown's crash from last year in the skateboard Big Air. Here it is for those who haven't seen it. Crash
