Anyone who thinks Greg Byrne is anything but his own man should look....

no further than Polk's comments to Greg Ellis for proof otherwise. Byrne basically told our largest baseball booster to get bent, he's in control of the athletic department.

Is it possible that Polk has trashed his image with MSU fans more completely and irreparably than Jackie Sherrill? I'd say yes.

I don't think there's any doubt. Jackie was a good man who failed at his job at the end because of a number of factors, some his fault and some not. Polk is a self-centered gnome who only cares about himself. If anyone thought he gave a damn about MSU, this should convince them otherwise. At least Jackie took responsibility for his actions and went out like a man without throwing a ***** fit.

held by Jackie and Polk aren't remotely on the same level. And do I really need to post which has more?

Jackie could tail gate with me any day. He will go in the HOF one day at State, as he should. And he will be cheered. As he should.

Jackie didn't sulk off. I've seen him back at games. I watched him completely enjoy himself walking thru the Grove before an Egg Bowl while OM people talked **** to him.He had that smug look, loving the hell out of it. I've never heard Jackie come close to cussing State.

I never held it personal with Jackie.

I never held it personal with Polk. Until yesterday.

...that he was a hired gun wherever he went and never thought that he was the athletic director for football. Polk, on the other hand, is more of a Medieval Pope spreading the good word of college baseball handing off head coaching positions almost like they were bishoprics.

Fellow MSU fans, other than the Sherrill hiring, can you think of any other time when we were more united? Hell, just look at GP and here. Posts are almost interchangeable. All I know is, for the first time in my life as a State fan, I now what it's like to have a real AD. As I drink today, many glasses will be raised to Doc, Bryne, and even Polk. Why Polk? Well, despite being at MSU for many years, he did more in 5 mins. yesterday to unite a fan base in a way that I've never seen. Looking forward to the press conferences though if I had 1 wish, I'd wish it were held in centerfield and Greg would personally paint over the wall.

In regards to his former coach, Cohen chuckled when his name was brought up.
"I love Coach Polk. I will always love coach Polk. He is like a father figure to me," Cohen said. "Anything Ron Polk has to say is going to enter into my mind, but, again, with the situation I was in and the situation Mississippi State was in, I felt that this is what was best for me.
"I feel it's what is best for Mississippi State."
