Anyone worried that getting Sidney might hurt our team in a way?

I mean obviously the guy is a once a decade type player but with the team we have returning minutes were going to be hard to come by for everyone. It is not like we have a 16-15 team returning. We already have pretty good chemistry and sometimes adding a high school super star to that mix can blow it up.
I think Sidney's biggest impact would be after this season with a couple of big senior losses if he is somehow cleared and able to come to MSU.

Disclaimer: This is not a "we did not need him anyway" post. I just did not see where Sidney fits in well this season without causing some resentment on the team.

With Sidney, Varnado, Riek, Baily, Augustus, and Osby, I just can't see all of them getting the PT they want this year. Don't get me wrong, I definitely want Sidney in maroon and white but I can also see a silver lining in him maybe not playing this season. Stansbury, for all his positives, has had a hard time preventing the transfers.

I think that getting Sidney (should he be ruled eligible) would be nothing but a boon for MSU basketball. That's of course assuming his attitude is right and the rest of the team and he get along.

I don't see it being a negative unless we do something like play him awaiting an appeal and then have to forfeit games after loosing the appeal. I think we have played it very smart to date. We've taken a wait and see approach and allowed the NCAA and the Sidneys to duke it out. If he's ever ruled eligible he will be a huge impact player. If not we will still have a good team.

As far as causing transfers, I don't think it will happen because they all will know he'll be a one and done.

Yeah, it would be about as much of a negative as Syracuse getting Carmelo Anthony for one year. Elgin Baily would just have to live with the reduced minutes.

And sometimes adding a superstar to that mix can be the difference between a Sweet 16 team and a Final Four team. He's definitely worth the risk if we can somehow get him eligible.

thinking- Varnado this year at center and then Sidney as a True Fr. next year at center after having to sit out this year because of all of the legal mess.

Why would someone transfer? The supposed transfer player would have to sit a year somewhere else. And if they stayed they'd sit a year behind Sydney (assuming), and then he'd be gone and the "jilted" player would be back in the lime light hopefully better skilled for having battled Sydney for a season in practice.

There's no such thing as having too many players and not enough minutes. You may have players on your bench who could start for other schools, but you never have too many good players.

We do not have a history of having a bench full of guys that could start elsewhere. They always end up transferring because they don't want to come off the bench for Mississippi State. I would hate to have a promising guy like Osby leave because of a guy that would only be here one year.
Now if Sidney was the star that everyone seems to think then I could live with it but I am not completely sold on him stepping in and being a Kevin Durant or Carmelo Anthony.
