I know change is never easy, but I do appreciate everyone who moved here with us, whether you want to pay for a subscription or not. Also, big thanks to Tom McAndrew for agreeing to stick with us. He didn't have to join us at On3. He could've stayed at Rivals, but he took a risk coming over here, too. It's appreciated everyone. Thank you.

Obviously, there will be bugs over the next few weeks. Slow load times I've seen a few times. It'll take time to polish everything, but we know this is the best move long-term. To be given the opportunity to make this move as one of the first few sites to move to On3 - a bunch were created by On3, we're one of the first to chose to be here - is a risk we think will really pay off in the long run.

I'm sure most of you have seen we have a $1 promotion right now for the entire year. It will go for a little while longer, so I'm not going to sit here and BS you and tell you not to miss out. With that said, we'd love to show many of you what we can offer on the premium side as well. We'll give you a whole year to prove it.

But again, I'm not going to sit here and bug you guys with a defacto advert. That's really not why I'm making this post. It's more so to thank all of you for coming over and giving all of this a chance. Tom has been loyal to us, and I really appreciate that. You guys being loyal to him means a lot to us, too.

So you’re saying we get full premium content for a full year for $1?

Full year. Sign up tomorrow and it goes all the way to Nov. 3, 2022. I know, I thought it was crazy too when they told us that. haha. Honestly.

It's mainly because Shannon Terry and the people creating this site are confident in what they're building. The database will be free for everyone to use, so that's going to be great. I did a ton of stuff for free the past two months that have to go behind a paywall now. I'm gonna try to still do the mailbag for free. Need to talk to the bosses about that. But for the most part, you will rarely see anything free from me anymore. Obviously, that's because of the $1 deal.

But again, I'm not here to plead. I'm probably coming off that way. That's really not my intentions.

The one thing I will say about this site is that if you want to cancel, they're not pulling the BS that Rivals pulled. I got in multiple arguments with some friends who oversaw Rivals because of that policy. Making people do chats and getting rid of a phone number was absolute BS. Now you just go to your username and you can cancel at any time, which is how it should be.

So, for those of you who do give us that shot, but know long term that paying for all this probably isn't your thing, it is way easier to get out of those automatic rollovers and all that. I'm a big fan of that. I have a ton of subscriptions like all of you do, too, I'm sure. Having to cancel your card to get our of something, which is what many did for Rivals, is just crazy.

Appreciate the content and the videos bud.

Appreciate you guys watching. We're really trying to tap into the YouTube world. All of you guys watching T-Frank the past couple of months has been so appreciated. T-Frank wasn't guaranteed to join us at On3. He took a crazy risk. Obviously, all of us (Nate, Greg, Dave, etc.) wanted him to be with us full-time from the start, but that was the one risk we took when we pitched all of this.

So sincerely, thank you guys for watching those and supporting the YouTube channel. T-Frank is locked up with us for at least a few years now. The guy does great stuff and we know we can benefit from tapping into YouTube. Just had to get it up and running.

Hot damn. I’ll give you a buck. I’d have gone $10 or more.

Well, hey, I have a Venmo account if you want to send me the other $9. Up to you haha.

I think it's an incredible deal. It's actually never been done before. 247, I'm pretty sure, was $10 to get people to sign up when it was created.

I remember sitting in meetings when they were pitching to us this deal. It was one of those, 'wait, so it's really going to just be a dollar for a whole year?' kind of talks. I think I asked at least twice. Seemed crazy to me.

That's for corporate to worry about. My job is to make this a fun site and provide the best recruiting coverage I can provide. I'm far from perfect, but I'll always give it my best with that.

Hi, Ryan, unbelievably when the season was going to hell because of corona, I was going to cancel my rivals subscription, but procrastinated in doing so. Eventually things picked up and oh my god that would have been a massive mistake! Trust me, I’m hard to impress, I couldn’t imagine the subscription being more worth it! And that was the rivals subscription which I have to cancel. Anyway, you’ve heard this 10000 times, but from your coverage of the team which is amazing to the fan interaction you give us, which could not be better. You guys work your asses off! I hope they are paying you good. 😉. You are truly elite and could totally beat whoever the Ohio State rivals/On3 guys are😂. Thanks so much, Sir.

Haha. I appreciate it. I'm not one to boast about myself. The guys I work with are as good or better than me. All I'll say is that we can't make a move like this and not try and improve even more. With moves like this come higher expectations. We all know that. Season has been up and down a bit, and we can't control that, but we're gonna do our best to continue to improve. We have the basics down pretty well. It's really about trying to find ways to refine and find ways to expand.

May give the sub a go but not a fan of videos - want to read content and quickly find whatever news I’m looking for; not sit through several minutes of conjecture/discussion/opinions. Just me.

Videos are 20 percent of our content, max. In fact, the more I think about it, it's probably 10 percent.

For the record, I'm the same way. I hit control + F constantly in articles, skim for a key word, then move on.

Do written pieces accompany videos? Or is it one or the other?

EDIT: Please disregard. I found it.

Can someone post a link or instructions on how to take advantage of the $1 offer? I didn't do it when I created my account and now I can't figure out how to do it.

I appreciate it @gogolion. Thanks for giving us a shot.

I was trying not to make this a plea for subscriptions, so I didn't link it last night. I just wanted to thank people for joining Tom over here.

They're typically separate things. Like Ryan said, the vast majority of our content is written. Sometimes we will embed one of our videos in an article, but I wouldn't really say they're a pair. The video is just there if you want to look at it.

Everyone has done a great job with the content expansion over the past year. There is almost too much now ... jk.

Love the videos especially TFC but the length of some can be prohibitive .... only 24 hours in the day.

Yeah, Dave explained it best. For example, we put out our predictions today. I include T-Frank's video breakdown with the beat writer from the Washington Post in that to get more eyes on the video, but it's not like you have to watch it. Reading the predictions is the point of the story. The video is related, but not something you have to watch to learn what we're trying to tell you.

Thanks for some of the info, and will look to subscribe, as I have found some of the videos to be good stuff.

I do have a couple questions re what has happened, which I thought were clear, but not sure now:

  • What has happened to BWI the mag? Did ON3 buy BWI? Since all of you guys were the writers for the paper, what happened? It was my understanding that all of you would be employees of the company that acquired BWI.
  • Does BWI still exist, or is my subscription meaningless now?
  • Is Phil still doing his radio show with Jed on Saturday mornings, or is that now over? Maybe you are all disconnected from Phil now. The ads for the radio were on the BWI Rivals site before.
  • Noticed that ON3 recruiting rankings have Penn State lower than Rivals. Who are the evaluators for ON3?

1) The magazine is controlled by Coman Publishing. It’s still around and we’ll be contributing to it like normal. The link to ac

2) I believe Phil Is still doing the radio show. I don't see Phil as much now though, so don't know if it'll be weekly. I'll link him here and hopefully he can chime in then. @PhilGrosz

3) On3's ranking system is different than Rivals and 247. On those two sites, PSU is higher because they have more commits than almost everyone else.

Our system at On3 is now weighted by the average number of commitments nationally at the moment. I believe the number currently is around 14 or 15. So, basically, the easy way to explain is that PSU's best 14-15 players are what the system is recognizing right now.

For those who followed me at Rivals over the past year, you'd know that I've been stressing for awhile now that PSU's class was never going to stay No. 1 or No. 2. They simply had more commits and that was why they were so high. Personally, I think that's an antiquated system and my coworkers here now agree. I've written many times about why I think average points per commitment is a better way to evaluate.

This takes that element out of the equation. PSU has been sitting at No. 6 for awhile in this system, and No. 6 to No. 8 is where they're projected to finish at Rivals and 247. I whole heartedly believe that as this system spreads and people learn about it, it'll become the most-respected.

As for our scouts, they're great. Chad Simmons was without a doubt the best national reporter at Rivals. I say that with all due respect to my former coworkers. They would almost all agree with me that Chad is an incredibly hard worker. He hits the road almost everyday. He's always going to high schools, meeting with players, families. The guy is incredible.

Charles Power is also doing a ton of scouting. We had him on our podcast yesterday. He was one of the lead scouts at 247 for a handful of years. Honestly, I was following Powers before he got hired at 247 because I always liked his work and I remember being so pissed when 247 got him. haha. I has some heated conversations with coworkers at Rivals for a month or two time about how we messed up letting Powers go to 247. Shannon Terry, creator of On3, created 247 and Powers was one of the first guys he went for then at On3. There's a reason for that. Shannon has seen the amount of work Powers puts into all of this before.

Two other notables are Gerry Hamilton and Jeremey Crabtree. When ESPN was really financing its recruiting department, those two led the show. ESPN then decided to stop trying to compete with Rivals/247 and that's when things went down hill for them. Those two are incredible. Crabtree was a top guy at Rivals when it was first created, too.

Of course, we also have Ivan Maisel leading our coverage of college football overall, too. Many fans should recognize Ivan. He doesn't do recruiting coverage, but will just cover the sport for us similar to Pete Thamel at Yahoo!, Pat Forde at SI, and many others.

thanks for the feedback, because if all of you guys were not going to stay with the BWI mag, then I would hit the road on that subscription. I was a subscriber before most of you were born.......back to Phil's CLF.

No, that's part of all of this. Realistically, magazines are dying out everywhere, so I'm not going to say it'll be around for the next decade, but the plan is definitely have it going into next season and beyond.
