Are me & Michael Davis the only people that think this:

At the end of a premium article on BullDawgJunction.com, Davis says Sherrill's early 90's teams had the talent to beat anybody they played and that Davis' only regret is that the team didn't come together enough to do that.

In at least one or two seasons, it seems State was only a play a away in most of their losses - sometimes against the eventual national champion. Jumping offsides on 4th & gimmie at the end of the game at Tuscaloosa. Having Tennessee on the ropes near the end of the SEC Champ game. Those are just a couple. A couple of seasons I felt like we could beat anybody we lined up against. Anybody in the nation.

(this next part doesn't apply to the question in the subject line, BTW)

And should Croom EVER get some competence in our offense I think we'll see those days again in Starkville.

That was one of my biggest complaints about Sherrill. There were times when we had pretty good talent, but we would do something stupid and we would never meet our potential. Now, everybody is going to do something stupid from time to time, but it just seemed like with Sherrill it was every game and the worst thing was never seemed concerned about it.

Croom is certainly more disciplined, and I think if we can get a little more talent, we can be pretty good again.

As far as offense, while we were obviously better under Sherrill, it's not like we were all that great either. I still don't understand why he fired Bruce Arians.

From 1991 through 1994, we were loaded. Everone likes to throw Rocky under the bus, but he needs to be thanked for that. But yes, 1991 and 92, I felt like we could beat anyone. It seemed like we had every good player the state had to offer then. 1998....not so much. I saw us get our *** handed to us at Stillwater. The 1998 team did pick it up at the end of the year. I thought the 1999 and 2000 teams were much better than 1998.

lost 4 games, and probably only should have lost two. Only LSU and Auburn blew us out, and that was a terrible LSU team, we just can't beat them. And of course, it's tough to say this about a game you lose by 5 touchdowns, but who knows what would have happened if that first play TD hadn't been penalized?

1992, same way. Lost to a terrible LSU team early Then we lay an egg aGAINST a winless South Carolina team right after the emotional Florida win. We had the lead on Alabama late in the game but lost it. Lost to Ole Miss with 10 chances inside the 10. Lost to North Carolina in a game we were dominating. 5 losses, and probably shouldn't have been but two, but we found a way to screw it up.

team, if you look back had the chance also. OT at LSU and SC. The phantom block in the back against Ark. on the int return. And the fumbled FG snap. Hell, the only team that fairly easily won against us was OM. But we were up, what, 16-0, then Madkin went out with the flu. Our D-line was all hurt that game, too. To me that was the under achieving team of the Jackie era.

Same could be said for 99. Although that was the phantom block in the back on the punt return at Bama.

extent we overachieved in 1999. A couple of bounces our way in 2000 and we are 10-0 heading into the Egg Bowl. In 1999, a couple of bounces the other way and we are 5-6. I guess karma has a way of balancing things out.

was one of my favorite. We also should have won the Peach Bowl that year if it wasn't for Taite and Moulds not going after the same chick.

That call in the Auburn game was pure BS. The Alabama game basically kind of came down to who had the ball last, and unfortunately it was Bama. I think we gave up a 100 yard KO return against LSU, or something like that.

we hit him, almost immediately, knocking him back into the end zone... but nobody wrapped him up. He then streaks down the left side of the field, basically untouched, for the TD.

That play is on my list of "The Top 10 Most Frustating Plays I've Witnessed in MSU Football History".

That offense was built around him and he was one of the best running QBs I've ever seen and an decent passer. For all the credit Steve Spurrier gets for being an offensive genius, the first 5 wide receiver spread formation I ever saw was when we ran it against him in that 1992 game. The Gators had no idea how to even begin to defend it.

I was sitting in the endzone where he caught it. Me, my buddies and the LSU couple sitting beside us all heard the whistle blow. Top 10,in my I felt like we got hosed moments.

The year we shoulda won @ Tuscaloosa but jumped offsides on 4th & goal from the 1 at the end of the game. It was one of 3 find-a-way-to-lose plays we had that day.

1) We try the end-around throwback to the QB play and it gets intercepted. Our RB couldn't even see the QB. He just heaved it across the field. Flashy razzle dazzle just isn't our thing.

2) We punt to Palmer (think that was his name). He's their high profile slippery return specialist. We have 4 guys covering well downfield. Four guys in an umbrella round #2 as he catches it and he still slips away and returns for a TD.
