hahahahahahaha. Whew. HAHAHAHHAHHAHA.

I'm posting this on the basketball board because of all the obnoxious BS Arkansas fans have posted here since their program miraculously bailed out Kentucky basketball by hiring Calipari. Jerry Jones promising to DOUBLE all Kentucky basketball NIL offers? Maybe he should be TRIPLING Memphis football NIL offers. Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino is going to need another neck brace after ramming his head into the wall in the locker room.

I just don’t see
If you’re talking about Sumrall, somebody is going to get a great coach this off-season. I hope we get the chance, but he’s going to have many suitors.
i think he is a good coach.. i think he could do good at a SEC school like Florida or something. Wouldn’t be mad if we hired him but I think you get Stoops football just cleaned up a little. A tad bit more disciplined but not anything that will make us have a better record than we have been having. Kentucky football will never have the better athletes when it comes to playing in the SEC so I think a defensive minded basic offensive coach isn’t going to be a splash hire for UK ever. Maybe nobody will so you roll with the safe hire in Sumrall but my opinion has always been UK needs a coach that will switch it way up to be successful. A splash hire as yall say. Sumrall is a good safe hire but I don’t see him elevating the program. Take a risk on somebody. Need somebody that thinks different like Mike Leach. Roll the dice… we aren’t Bama.

If they fail so what on to the next hire. The current most successful coach in the history of Kentucky football is still at the bottom of the SEC. I don’t understand not gambling on a hire. How far can you fall? Yea I get it we could be 0-3 rn but still… probably alone in this way of thinking.

Luckily I became a Kentucky fan from the love of Kentucky Basketball which made me love everything Kentucky so I never had any expectations for football. During Stoops highest point I got on the bandwagon and began to keep up with football but quickly learned the heartbreak of loving UK football. For that reason I’m ok with throwing away a few seasons until we can make a good hire. 3 wins is the same as 6 wins imo. I could care less about the mayo bowl where half the team doesn’t play. Give us a faint hope of making the play offs one year like Vandy is doing. We have the fan base im so confused on why our football program is bottom every year. If we were good we could sell out bigger stadiums than anybody imo. Even Bama. BBN is the best in college. Wish we had the money to build a huge stadium like Tennessee. We would sell it out if we had a decent team but ik that’s only hopes and dreams. I’m not one to say we have to be bad because we have always been bad. But until I see any kind of serious effort I’m not gonna dwell on it. Easy to just enjoy Kentucky basketball.

Alex Golesh, current South Florida coach would be the best coach that we could hope and pray for. Great offensive mind and certainly would give us a team that could and would out score a lot of teams. Offense recruits kids, this is the reason we struggle with recruiting. Coaching is certainly important but it takes Jimmy & Joes. Golesh would certainly develop QBs. He runs the same offense as TN. I would gladly take TN's offense style here, as would most fans. We have been offense deprived for so long, I am not sure we as fans would know how to act to sit in Kroger and watch an agressive offense. If Florida or Arkansas fires their coach before Barney fires Stoops, Golesh will not likely be available. I heard he was VT's top choice if they could get him. GO BBN!

The same guy that went 7-6 and 7-6 the last 2 years? The same guy that got beat 45-10 by Tulane and 21-3 by Memphis last year? Florida will do everything they can to hire Lane Kiffin or Cigniti. Sumrall has already proven to be a better coach than Golesh.

If Stoops is fired/retires/whatever, these are the calls and the order they should be made in: Brent Key(unlikely he leaves), Jon Sumrall, Will Stein, and Bryant Haines

Not sure why Gruden is mentioned so often, it's been 35 years since he coached in college. Sure he won a SB, but that isn't working too well for UNC.
He’s a good coach. The college game is now about the same as the pros. Belichick was never a great coach. He’s never been worth a crap without Brady.

Gruden would be a tremendous upgrade here.

No way UK hires a guy fired for racist comments.
Murderers, rapists, bank robbers get second chances for their actions. I think a guy just saying words, should get a second chance. It seems like only one ethnic group get punished for saying certain things.

It’s past time to forgive and forget. Zero reason to not hire Gruden. He sure as hell can’t do any worse than Stoops has lately. 1-10 the last 11 SEC games, including 0-7 at home.

No way UK hires a guy that was caught saying racist things.

UK is still fighting a racist image to this day.

And that was a false narrative.

Gruden’s wasn’t false.

You could be right, and that was what you had to have 5 years ago. Now you have to be able to manage 105 kids, many of them making 5 numbers a month, a few 6 figures and keep them happy or they hit the portal. Gruden dealt with people under contract who were tied to the team under a contract. He may be a good coach I just never cared for him.

Sometimes it is better to think before you speak. There are probably 100+ better options.

1. Lack of College Coaching Experience

  • Gruden hasn’t coached at the college level since the early 1990s (Tennessee, Pitt, Southeast Missouri State).
  • Modern college football is vastly different from the NFL — NIL, transfer portal management, roster turnover, and relentless recruiting are as important as X’s and O’s. Gruden has never had to build a recruiting pipeline or operate within today’s NCAA landscape.

2. Recruiting Deficiency

  • College football recruiting is 24/7 and relationship-driven.
  • Gruden’s entire reputation comes from the NFL; he’s never shown an ability (or interest) in convincing 16–18 year-olds and their families to choose a school.
  • Kentucky, which already battles uphill against SEC powers in recruiting, can’t afford a head coach who is unproven in this essential area.

3. Cultural Fit & Stability Concerns

  • Gruden’s personality is polarizing. While “Chucky” intensity plays well in short bursts, college programs require stability, development, and a culture kids want to join and stay in.
  • Kentucky under Mark Stoops has built its identity around culture, player retention, and development. Gruden could destabilize that foundation.

4. Reputation & Off-field Issues

  • Gruden resigned from the Raiders in 2021 after leaked emails containing offensive and inappropriate remarks surfaced.
  • Any program hiring him would face immediate national criticism and negative recruiting blowback.
  • In the SEC, where every recruiting edge matters, UK doesn’t need to hand rivals free ammunition.

5. Unrealistic Salary Demands

  • Gruden was making $10 million+ per year with the Raiders.
  • Even if he takes a pay cut, his expected salary would dwarf Kentucky’s typical coaching scale and create contract risk if it failed.
  • UK could invest the same money into proven college coaches or staff/resources to elevate recruiting and facilities.

6. Scheme Concerns

  • Gruden’s NFL offensive system is notoriously complex, with a massive playbook and verbiage.
  • College offenses thrive on simplicity and tempo — schemes that maximize athletic mismatches and allow young players to execute.
  • His approach could bog down a roster not built for NFL-style execution.

7. Better Options Exist

  • Kentucky is in a strong SEC position with facilities, resources, and recruiting access.
  • If Stoops were to leave, UK would be better off pursuing up-and-coming coordinators or Group of 5 head coaches who understand the modern college landscape rather than a flashy NFL name with no recent college track record.

✅ Bottom line:
Jon Gruden would bring name recognition, but little else that Kentucky football actually needs. His lack of recruiting experience, cultural baggage, questionable fit with college systems, and cost would make him a poor hire compared to younger, college-focused candidates.

If Stoops is bought out (37.5 million) the Brinks truck will be empty.
His current buyout is over $50mm. ($9mm x remaining years of contract 5.75 or $51.75mm). In 2026 when the contract rolls over in July?, that drops to 80% of the same formula, so ($9mm x remaining years 5 or $45mm x .8= $36mm.
