Cant help but think we have somehow lost a piece of our hitting mentality with all the HBP and BBs. Gotta find a way to end the backwards Ks... they are killing us.

Not sure what our hitters are thinking - strikes down the middle and bats on the shoulders. WTF!

True, but we are always in a deep hole trying to come back.
Agreed. Liked Jones tonight and I kinda get getting him out of there before the wheels fall off in his first Friday start and probably not his last. I'm gonna write this off as a step in the right direction. Still feel we have the guys in the bullpen to get it done. Just need a better plan... I hope.🤔
Regardless tho, we have to hit the freaking ball.

This team just looks completely done. I remember @fog22 was positive that this year would prove all of us wrong who thought Kingston should’ve been fired last year. If this free fall continues, I just don’t think Kingston is cut out for the job. Not a bad coach. Just not championship caliber.

Excellent start by Jones and I like him as a Friday night starter. I'm sure pulling him had to do with pitch count as well.
He gave us a chance but still no hitting to speak of and a lot of called strikes - it's like everyone is looking for a BB.

Thats exactly what I see as well. Gotta think it's more of a mindset than anything else. Hoping that proves easier to fix than say mechanical issues but they are running out of time.

The aggressive hitting mentality seems to have left the ballpark - even Petry seems impacted (looks fatigued and unfocused).
Appears only Messina, Casas and Braswell are attacking the ball with the bat.

I’m at loss guys, i see what your saying but remember walks and hbp has been a big part of our offense all year long fatiguing starters and getting into their bullpen, heck we might have led the nation at bb and hbp at one time and everyone here was oohing and ahhing at our new found plate disipline and it was working perfectly, but again we still have to make them pay by putting the ball in play which has been mia for several weeks now! I still have hope though and as red said, hope is a dangerous word!

One thing is we are leaving a lot of guys on base. We can obviously show great discipline at getting a free base, which is great, but when the time comes to put the ball in play, it sure seems we're having a tough time knocking the rust off actually earning a base. I'm a big believer in the importance of reps. If we are losing reps (swings), we are losing agressiveness... that's my theory anyway.

Its been obvious for a while now that we come up looking for walks. You can't stand at the plate and look at a a pitch thinking its a quarter inch off and expecting the umpire to see the same, and/or stand there wanting a ball while the pitcher grooves yoke balls right down the pipe. Swing the f'n bat; attack the ball.

I always said to myself the difference in a decent golfer and a good golfer is if you get going sideways with your swing mid-round a good golfer could always make that adjustment to get on track, it seems with the staff we have we could have gotten these guys back on track during the last three weeks. I’m willing to conceed some of these guys haven’t been able to get the reps needed to stay in form, but it’s time to get back in the groove and today would be a great place to start.

You’re right. We really did a lot of just taking advantage of the other teams poor play. We aren’t getting any of that down the stretch. Looks like a lot of fools gold with this squad. And the pitching has just been underwhelming based on the hype.

The reps I'm referring to is actual game play at the plate. If we are not swinging at anything close and protecting the plate at all times we are getting rusty for when we decide we have to. The number of called 3rd strikes is alarming to say the least and shouldnt be happening under any circumstances at any point in a game. Mind numbing.

Agree. And not just called 3rd strikes - the number of grooved 1st strikes taken is totally alarming.
Earlier in the year, those 1st pitch strikes were landing in the outfield bleachers - that's a major difference I see in our hitters approach!

Overthinking and lack of confidence doesn't allow you to make that adjustment. I'm basing this on your golf analogy, because it applies to my game from time time.
Nothing like getting reps as you guys mention.

The 8 and 9 each have a hit, but this needs to improve alot. Almost like playing with 7 batters. Very poor bunt attempts etc....
Gotta get everyone hitting. I do like our runs have all come off singles. Step in the right direction if you ask me. Also like at least attempting to have speed in the first two batters. Anything else seems blasphemous.

Umpire has added 8 inches to the outside edge of the plate for our RH hitters. Some unbelievable called strikes.
