I agree. I predicted we’d lose by 10, and we lost by 12. We scored 40 points in the second half and outscored them by six. The first half was the worst basketball we’ve played all season. Kudos for the team for regrouping and playing pretty well in the second half.

I fully expected a loss but damn it sucks to see them play so pathetically offensively. It’s starting to feel as if State is where shooters go to die the past few years.

Disappointing to see players standing around playing one on one, taking bad shots. Need to see screens, cutting , ball movement. Roster is missing a combo guard 6-2/6-3 who is physically strong , can drive to the basket as well as hit an open shot.

I'm not either. Tenn isn't that great. They must have watched the film last year pregame of how we whooped their butts

I think it’s clear that right now, we aren’t a Sweet 16 team, which is a bit disappointing given how we started. Too many teams shoot it too well from 3 against us for us to make a nice run.

I’m more concerned about the offense. They have tried to run way too much iso in these last three or four games. In all those blowout wins there’s much more passing and cutting leading to easier baskets.

I think after the first half Tennessee knew they were better and they were going to win and they just let their foot off the gas a bit. When we cut it to single digits it wasn’t long they had it right back up to 20. I think they just wanted to finish the game and not have any injuries.
Saturday’s game is a near must win. If we lose I think we are in trouble.

I think ultimately it’s a game that was a likely loss going in and we did indeed lose it and nothing remarkable happened so you kinda just take it and move on. Need to beat SC again on Saturday but do that and you’re still in a good spot with two big home games next week.

Tenn is good at home. 11 and 0. All double digits. Look it up

Yeah but only one team has scored fewer than 16 points in the first half at TN (W. Carolina) and the others aren’t close to 16. That’s really disappointing

This isn’t a good offensive team. We really took a chance with giving up defense for offense. The offense we got wasn’t enough to offset the drop off defensively. But, Jans made his bed

Maybe they did take their foot off the gas or maybe we fought back and just couldn't overcome the worst 1st half of the year. Most State teams I've watched over the years would have got their doors blown out after that 1st half.....this team didn't.

I think there are many that don’t want to admit that maybe we just aren’t as good as we thought/hoped we were.
We aren’t that good…right now. Teams have ups and downs. The competition we’re playing against is good enough that a small dip is going to give bad results.

I do think the sample size is big enough to say we have a problem covering the three, at least against athletic teams. That’s a major problem for tournament time, but we’re still good enough to be able to play teams outside of the top ten close if we’re playing decent.

We did better at Tenn than the averag opposing team does this year. Showed signs of life. Maybe someone will catch that expensive roster at home on an off night. We didn't.

Jans is making the pieces work in the way that makes sense to him. I don’t think he’s perfect. But in the end, this is yet another typical MSU team with absolutely zero NBA talent (or any high end professional talent of any kind) that is still a Top 15 squad. And we’re in the top half of the league standings of what is now 100% known to be the best conference in college basketball history over a single year period. It’s hard to complain too much about that from a coaching perspective.

Our problems covering the 3 seem somewhat intentional. We’re playing more up-tempo this year without guys like Tolu and Jimmy Bell out there. That style of play typically involves playing the passing lanes as opposed to the shooters….in order to try and create turnovers and run-out opportunities.

Trouble is, SEC teams have figured that out, and are countering what we’re doing by pushing the ball up before we can get set, and either taking quick perimeter shots off 1-2 passes, or going down low if its not open. We need to be forcing the 2nd option more than we are…..especially since we aren’t forcing nearly as many turnovers lately. We need to change what we’re doing and just be more variable in general on the defensive end.
