This is a crazy contract. The Pack were over a barrel but the guy had one good half season last year. Giving him this type of deal is an incredible risk. They could pay him for 2 so-so years and still have to eat $50 million in dead money to get out of this.

Any term contract with a lot of guaranteed money has high elements of risk. Taking that risk is almost necessary to win all of the marbles.

Evidently so. This just underlines why so many QBs went in the top 15 picks last draft.

You hit pay dirt on young QB on a rookie contract and you’re set for 4-5 years. I’d argue the Packers kind of flubbed it with Love.

The Rodgers drama prevented them from playing him for more than a year before they had to pay him. That elevated the risk.

And what do the 49ers do with Brock Purdy? Obla-di, obla-da, life goes on....

The Niners won the lotto with Purdy. He’s Tom Brady-like value. They just didn’t win a title on his rookie deal.

Purdy is still more accomplished than Love. He’s done more to justify a big extension.

Agreed. Question is when do they extend him.

As a Bears Fan I hope this hurts them for years to come - Favre - Rodgers - maybe Love - it ain't fair.

Not looking for a debate about whether or not it was a smart move by the Packers but good for Love on getting paid. NFL teams are awash in money even though some owners are cheapskates and don't want to spend. OTOH, others owners don't mind spending the cash if they think it'll help them win. The only thing stopping them from spending more is the salary cap.

After this season, I think. He’s on a 4-year deal and this will be season 3?

No rush to pay over the moon and Purdy doesn’t seem like the type to stage a bitter holdout. He’s a QB. He’ll get his Brinks truck.

Might want to do it before Prescott signs his deal. On the other hand, if Purdy has a lousy season or serious injury this year........

There are all kinds of cap implications in SF. You have to extend Purdy, but the timing of that becomes complicated for a team looking to contend this year.

Ex: what do you do with Aiuyuk? Samuel? Trent Williams? Kittle? That all star defense?

That's why John Lynch gets paid the big bucks. Maybe he wishes he could have gone back to broadcasting.

Everyone remember this kind of stupidity when your NFL and other sports packages go up by 25%. Consumers end up paying for these deals,
